New computer powers on fine, powers off after a short time (30-60 minutes)

Hello, I built a new computer for Christmas and everything has powered on fine since the first boot up. I installed Windows and was installing my drivers and other components when the computer shut down. At first the computer would not power up at all but after I changed the power cable it powered up again fine. It ran for about 30 minutes and then shut down once more. I changed the power cable a second time and it booted up. It has continued to do this, never staying on longer than an hour. Whenever I change the cable and reboot it, it stays on for a shorter duration unless I let the computer rest for a period of time.

None of the parts feels warm to the touch and I downloaded a temperature monitor and there were no spikes or changes in the temperatures of any components. I tried changing the ram to a different slot with no success. I have tried several different power cords, different power strips/surge protectors, different wall outlets, and I even tried a different house. The problems persists through all these changes.

I am assuming it may be a faulty component but I could really use some help to troubleshoot this.

Here are the specs to my computer.

---CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CML8GX3M1A1600C10

---GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

---AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8320FRHKBOX

---Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

---MSI R7770-PMD1GD5 Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

---500GB Barracuda SATA HD 7200rpm

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forums Malcatraz. with all test done. i would try with another psu.the power cords changing make me think about something is loose inside.and also do you get a BSOD or errors.

No, I do not get any errors aside from a "Windows has not shut down properly."

I have a 430W PSU, would that be sufficient to run this system to test the problem?

I have tried just unplugging and plugging it back in, both from the PSU itself and the wall. Neither work, only cord changes seem to work.

I agree with Denis - definitely try to swap the power supply. If physically swapping the power cord causes it to start working again, it is likely defective and continuing to use it under those circumstances could eventually cause damage to something else. Thermaltake isn't known for selling high quality power supplies anyway, so it isn't beyond the pale that you could have gotten a defective unit out of the box.

I agree with everyone here; I believe it is a faulty power supply. That 430 watt should be fine to test that theory.
