New Computer....please help me....advice needed!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. A little gaming.....not sure really, I wan't to at least be capable of gaming if I want to. Internet usage, maybe some photo stuff. I would like to get a video camera and do some stuff with that on it. music, videos...etc. I wan't it to be blazing fast!

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
2500 maximum......but that is pushing it (would like to be under 2000 if possible)
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
United states
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
No brand preference....just want the fastest for the best value
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Only thing I have is a copy of Windows 7 64bit.
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
I have searched and read alot
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
I would like to do some overclocking and tweaking for fun
8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
not sure really
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
In about 2 months...but I may push it further out if some better technology is coming

here is what I have so far. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18607488
I just picked a monitor without much research....i would like 24-27". I also picked keyboard, mouse, motherboard and burner/blu ray drives just based on newegg reviews.

In all honesty I would like to trim a little of the cost of what I have now, but I don't want to sacrifice much performance.

Aside from the monitor, with two months to shop and learn more about what you want, you could almost buy two machines that would meet or exceed your needs, wants and expectations. Newegg is a good vendor. Sign up for their e-mail ads, and you'll receive a lot of codes for discounts on good components.

Also, shop the specials at Fry's Electronics. Their new ad cycle starts on Friday. If you live near one of their B&M stores, check their online ads. Sometimes, their prices are even better in store.

Sorry, your link to your private shopping list is password protected. 😛

Seriously, with your budget, if you check out your options and shop carefully, you should have plenty of change for new software and add on toys. 😎

Welcome to AT!

To be completely honest, for your needs, all I see is overkill, overkill, overkill, overkill, overkill. If you want something that can do modest gaming, about $800-900 can get you a sufficient machine. If you are not, $300 can. Define light gaming.

You can literally save $1500 from your budget and still get a badass rig. Rethink it.

I would go with 955BE + cheap compatible motherboard (Last AMD rig I built used a Gigabyte UD3P) + 4gb G.Skill DDR3-1333 + 1920x1200 monitor + 5850 + Antec 300 + 500-600w PSU (Seasonic, Antec, Corsair, etc.) + Caviar Black 640gb or Samsung F3 + Keyboard/mouse. Do something like this if you are SURE you will get into intense gaming with current/future games. Otherwise, you can drop down to a AMD 620 Propus, 5770, 500w Antec Earthwatts for modest gaming. If you are pretty sure you're not going to get into gaming, get something small, cheap, and pre-built.

I will reiterate that you are SPENDING WAY TOO MUCH !!!!!

EDIT: I just noticed you're waiting 2 months to buy. There probably won't be anything substantially new, but prices might fluctuate. Either way, you don't need to spend that much.

He meant some sort of cheap AM3 mobo paired with the Phenom II X4 955BE, rather than a P55 based LGA1136 mobo.

Other than that, I complete agree with Mr.Donut. With a $2000 budget, you're looking at an uber high-end build, and yet you're only thinking you might game a bit on this computer.

I mean, if you have a crazy amount of cash to burn, then do whatever. But, you can get some serious performance for almost half the price tag.

Wait, you're right. I was thinking i5-750 whilst typing 955BE...Edited 😀.

I would probably go AMD for money-saving. Not like you'll miss Intel's performance.

Whatever motherboard is compatible really. Anything reliable will serve any machine well. I don't factor in petty differences like USB/SATA 3 just yet, and I wouldn't do multi-GPU unless I had 1366. Might as well pick up a faster card (plenty out there). Anyways, yeah...

Do you already have any parts?

A case? A keyboard? A mouse?

If you do, that could knock the price down by about $100. If you're looking for a blazing fast machine for "light gaming" then you definitely don't need to spend anywhere near $2000, let alone $2500. A $2500 rig would be absolutely top-of-the-line with extremely expensive watercooling to boot.

Before anyone can help you much further you're going to have to define "light gaming" for us. Do you want to play Crysis at max settings 24/7 or are you into just casually playing random games for an hour a day or less? Vastly different pieces are suitable to either end of the spectrum.

Looks like OP requires a full new set of components + peripherals. Including the 24"-27" screen he's looking for (1080p? HDMI? DisplayPort?).

umm ok.....I kind of agree with you guys, but I consider myself to be sort of an enthusiast as well, so I kinda want slightly higher end stuff just to play around with and for some slight future proofing. I honestly don't know what games I would play.....something graphics intensive I am sure.......most likely a FPS. I play modern warfare 2 on xbox 360....so something similar. I think I am set on wanting an SSD for a hard drive.......and I may throw in a 500 gb drive for like music and video storage. I never gave AMD a thought, because I thought Intel had a good performance lead currently. As for the monitor...I want something that looks nice and 27" seems like it would be cool. as far as input on the monitor, I don't know...I didn't think it made that much difference. Most of my electronics in my house are HDMI though.

Things I think may be over the top and not needed on my build:
blu ray player
lesser power supply
cheaper motherboard
cheaper case maybe
cheaper cpu cooler
cheaper processor maybe
slightly cheaper graphics card (5850)
cheaper memory (still 6gb)

Lets also not forget that my prices are all newegg based.....I may be looking for deals and do not have to go through newegg for everything.

Lets say my new budget should be around $1,750.

thanks for the help so far guys.
