Hey everyone.

A friend of mine recommended me to these forums for advice on computer parts before I make any purchases. I've got plenty of time now before I buy the parts, but I was wondering what you all thought of what I have my eye on so far..

I was told this should be posted here instead of the 'computer help' section, so here I am! :)

Also keep in mind, I'm no pro when it comes to computing.. I'm just your above average gamer!
Therefore, I'm not looking for parts that will fly me to space, but at the same time I do want a dream machine. Also, a lot of things need to be explained to me because I'm no Einstein when it comes to understanding the pro lingo. However, I appreciate all the help you can give!

Okay, on to the parts!

Scroll down, I've updated the list.

Any input on parts like what I could change, what might not work, or just your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
- Mike

Go for an intel P35 chipset motherboard, there's no need for SLI. Go for the Q6600 after the price drops. Get cheaper RAM; the Ballistix Tracer is great stuff but overpriced. Get whatever DDR2-800 is on offer.

Buy.com had the PC2-8000 Tracers for $105 after a 55 rebate. Might come back. Right now they have the PC2-8500 for $139.99 with free shipping.
If you're not going to be overclocking though, these should be fine. Save another $10 with EMC622DCRUC code and you got 2GB Ballistix for $60.
Go with a P35 mobo like Rogue said. Check out the Gigabyte DS3R. Everything else looks good.

Hey again, thanks for all the advice.

I found a motherboard that you might like, let me know what you think.

Motherboard: ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
There are hardly any review I can find for it though, any idea how it performs?

As for the memory, I'm willing to pay the price. And by that I mean I will probably buy it from a friend of mine who works at a comp store. Discounts left and right! :p

Let me know what you think of that mobo though.
Also I was wondering what you thought of the monitor. I've heard about the three different types, but has anyone actually dealt with one? Does it turn out fine after calibration and whatnot?

Thanks again everyone.

You don't want the P5K3 motherboard, that is for DDR3

Try this one.

ASUS P5K DELUXE

It looks as if you want to overclock, what heatsink are you going to get?

I'd say that you are overpaying for the memory but if that's what you want....

edit/

I would suggest getting the E6420 and overclocking it to 3.2 to 3.4 ghz. Plan on going quad when yorkfield comes out next year.

I think your new build looks good. I would go with the RAM you picked out. Nice for overclocking.
