Just built a computer for my nephew with the following specs:
Motherboard MSI KT4 ULTRA - FISR
CPU: AMD 3000+ Barton (Retail)
Video card: MSI FX5600-VTDR128
PSU: Antec True 430
RAM: 2 modules Crucial 512MB PC2700
Case: Chenming UNEEC Steel Case w/ Side Window - Blue
HDD: WD 160MB 8MB cache
OS: Windows XP Home
Lite-on CD/DVD ROM
Lite-on CD-RW 52x24x52
Glow cables with black lights and all that kind of stuff 😀

Everything works but there is no game port as I've used on board sound - which is adequate for now and sound card may be a future update.

He can't use his joystick/gamepad which he needs for some games. What options do I have? I've looked for an add-on game port card but an't find one. Will a USB to game port converter work?
Like this one?
It appears to be USB 1.1 but the computer can support 2.0.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Go for the converter... USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1 shouldn't have problems there, just make sure there aren't any compatibility problems with the joystick and the converter

Oh I know USB 2.0 is backward compatible. My questions really are:
1. Will there be a performance hit using the converter?
2. Any other options? Does anyone know if a game port add on PCI card is available?

There are some multimedia access panels which have game ports but I'd rather not have one of those. Too many cable to deal with specially as I will not be using them.
