My brother is wanting to build a computer for Christmas. He wants a computer that he can run games on (wants bf1942...) but wants to try to keep the whole thing under 800 bucks (including monitor)

Any motherboard/processor combinations that would be both reliable and cheap? Just some info to start pricing.... Thanks for the help

athlon 1600+-1800+ and an nforce2 mobo add 2 256mb modules of good ram and if you have enough left over the radeon 9500 pro or a ti 4200 can be added or saved up for

should be about 450 or less-the video card

I'm in the process of building this computer. The total comes to $469 including taxes and shipping (without speakers or moniter). Not sure if this is what you are looking for but it certainly will be able to run 1942 and then some 🙂

ASUS A7N266-VM AA (nForce)
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Retail
Kingston 256MB DDR PC2100
Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM
GeForce4 Ti4200
Evercase + 300W PS
Generic 16x DVD-ROM
CenDyne 40x12x48 CD-RW
MS Internet Keyboard
MS Optical Mouse
Sony Floppy Drive

i would reccomend getting an nforce 2 motherboard like the epox 8rda+ ($118 @ newegg)
nforce 2 is markedly better than the original nforce and if you split up the memory (or get 2 x 256 mb sticks) you can tak advantage of the dual chanel ddr.
good luck
