New computer issue

Here's the rig setup as I remember.

-In-Win Q500(mobo mounted with plastic and brass standoffs)
-Asus P4C800 Deluxe Mobo(BIOS(v19) settings available when I'm near the machine again)
=Thermaltake active fan on chipset.
-Intel P4 3.0(Northwood), retail fan
-LG GSA-4120B (Secondary Master)
-512MBx2 Mushkin PC3500 Black Level II (2-2-3-6, I believe).
-Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB(Sapphire Atlantis)
-WD 200GB SATA (WD2000J, I believe).
-FSP 530W PSU

Here are the issues in no discernable order.

  • Read errors from install CDs(Red Hat(DVD,CD),XP(0sp,sp1,sp2)
  • Spontaneous reboots, returns to windows with "driver thread caught in loop" error
  • Incorrect time even after manual reset or server update(recently fixed)
  • corrupted downloaded files from trusted sources(download.com, ibiblio.org, kernel.org)
I've tried a couple of things(twiddled with the memory timings mainly, PSU upgrade from 300W, switched cases) with the symptoms remaining.

I'm open to any and all suggestions at this point.

Here's a thread with some changes you could try: old thread Basically:

1) relax memory timings.

2) raise memory voltage.

Nice rig you got there, and it is wonderful not to have to pry the hardware details out of someone for a change  I had one of those Q500's once upon a time, they're some beefy cases! Two of those and a piece of thick glass, and you got yourself a coffee table. :D

I remember at one time I had it set up to 2.75, but I'll d/c it. The memory settings you'll have to verify with me as to which # is what. I think the board lists them in an order different from how people usually talk about it.

Now that you mention it, there are a couple of bowl-rings on it. :D It was originally a case for my Tyan S1832/850x2, but I swapped it with the Coolermaster centurion I originally bought for the Asus. Thought that the case could possibly be shorting the system.

I'll give it a shot and let you guys know.

You might try running Memtest86 on it overnight, if you didn't already, and see if any errors occur. I think I vaguely remember people saying to disable Legacy USB too, but I could be  on that.

I'll try disabling Legacy USB, but I have ran Memtest86 on it before with no errors. I can't remember what settings I had it on now, so I'll run that again.

Could it be CPU core voltage issues?
