New Computer. Can't get anything to register in display

I built a new computer which currently does not have a hdd installed. I was wondering if it is normal to not have anything register on my monitor. Everything else besides the hdd is installed. Fans spin and lights light when i hit the power but monitor stays dark. Anybody have anything for me?

You should get a display regardless of whether you have the HDD installed.
My guess would be either a problem with the video card itself or the memory, but as I found out with my new build recently, I've fallen a little behind the times and am doing some catch up.

=/ i wish i had another vid card to test this on or something. it's frustrating when my only other computer is a laptop
