New Computer Built...How to Test?

OK folks, I assembled the new rig,
i5-760
ASUS P7P55D-E Pro board
8 Gb Corsair RAM
EVGA GTX 460 Video Card
Noctua CPU Cooler

What's the best way to test the processor and the CPU cooler to make sure I got the damned cooler installed properly?

I haven't done this stuff in years, so I suspect many of the testing programs have changed or been replaced.

I've never trusted the ASUS temp monitoring programs...although they're PROBABLY accurate enough.

Thanks.

Did you install the HS after you installed the MB into the case?

Just slightly try pulling on the corners of the HS and see if any give a little

Nope...did most of my assembly on the desktop, then installed it as an assembly into the case. The new HAF 932 case has TONS of room for my big hands.

CoreTemp(GPU Temp)
Prime95(CPU Stress+RAM stress-Make sure you run the Blend test)
MSi Afterburner +MSi Kombustor(GPU Temp+Stress)(They come together)

Noctua uses a very nicely done screw arrangement.

As long as they are all snug as bug in a rug, your variables will come down the the cpu paste which is mainly to fill in the concave spots (if any) I usually just put a thin layer on and i've never had any problems with this method.

I use Hardware Monitor by CPUID to observe and monitor my temps and they are usually in-line with all other temperature reading apps. I think the latest is 1.16.0

take into consideration your ambient temps when doing readings

I've had Prime 95 blend test running for about 15 minutes and so far, 45C is the max temp.
I think that's pretty good.

I used the Noctua TIM for the assembly. It was rated pretty well in the TIM tests at Hard OCP.

BTW, nothing is overclocked...yet.

I've been running OCCT for about 20 minutes and temps are still in the low 40's. Looks like the cooler is doing its job.
I'll give the TIM a couple of days to "cure" before I try any overclocking.

Anyone use the ASUS overclocking utilities, or just do everything via BIOS?
