New Computer Building Woes: CD ROM Help!

Vyle

I'm in the process of building a cheap computer for my bro. I put his old hard drive into the new computer (didn't format! I know. I would've rather formatted but he had like 2 gigs worth of porn pix he hadn't burned to CD.) Anyway, I removed the devices from Device Manager and when I tried installing the hard drive, it boots to Windows 98 but can't see either his 32X CDROM or HP CDwriter in windows. They're both hardware detected, however. What gives? How do I get Windows to 'see' the drives? Thanks.

His system is:
Amptron M805LR
Duron 600 w/CoolerMaster Fan
64MB PC-100
NVidia Vanta 16meg AGP
32X CDROM
HP 8250i CDWriter
On-board sound
On-board modem
On-board Lan

Try installing the chip set driver for the mobo. if you use a 98 startup disk does it detect the cdroms?

If they are detected on startup, maybe the "last drive" setting set incorrectly. You could download tweakui from Microsoft and change the settings in the My Computer tab.

If the hard drive was previously used in an Intel based system you may have to force windows to recognize all the hardware (forget all previous harwaqre, then load the latest official 4in1 drivers.
