Im building a new computer and my budget is about $2000 Canadian. ($1350US approx). I already have the following, which I will use with this system

Maxtor 60GB ATA/100 IDE Harddrive
ATI Radeon 7500 Vid Card
NIC

I dont need a DVD Player. just need the following

-cpu, mobo, power supply, case, floppy, ram, cdrw(lite-on maybe?), heatsink fan, soundcard, monitor, keybaord, mouse

This system will be used for playing games occasionally, but mostly just regular work.
I can go with either AMD or Intel, which ever offers the better performance for the price.

The system I would build.

Athlon XP 2400+ / Thermalright SLK-900 HSF with a 92mm Panaflo fan / Asus A7N8X Deluxe or Epox 8RDA+ (I'm using the Asus)/ 2x256MB Corsair CAS2 DDR400 memory / Antec 1080 case /w Antec True(430W??) PSU / Sony FDD / Lite-On 52x24x52 CDRW and 16x DVD / The onboard audio is the quality of the Audigy card, although not the quality of the Audigy2 / Opinion varies on monitors, here's a list.

CPU: $60 shipped Athlon XP 1600+
Motherboard: some KT333 or KT266A board for around $100 bucks
RAM: $45 256mb of Crucial DDR266 at Crucial.com
Power Supply/Case: $70 Antec SLK3700AMB w/ included PSU
HSF: $30 Thermalright SK-7 w/ any 80mm fan (for quiet, 80mm NMB) from SVC.com
Floppy: $15 any floppy drive
Soundcard: $62 Audigy OEM from NewEgg.com
Monitor: $250 Samsung 955DF from Techonweb.com
Keyboard: $20 Microsoft Internet Keyboard from OfficeMax/Staples/Office Depot
Mouse: $40 Logitech MX500
CD-RW: any CD-RW these days will give you good performance, many -$10 --> $25 CD-RW's in the Hot Deals forum

Total is around $800. I think those estimates up there are all very generous estimates so it shouldn't be more expensive. That is just my personal opinion; don't base your decisions on what I put, wait for more people.
