New Computer Build

Like so many threads here I am building a new computer and I wanted to get your opinions plus I had some questions. Anyways here is my rig

Case: LIAN LI PC-65B @ $119

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ $199

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965-DS3 @ $129

Video Card: EVGA GeForce 8800gtx @ $559

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x 1GB) DDR2-800 @ $99

Hard Drive: Western Digital 500gb SATAII @ $120

Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer @ $39.99

HeatSink: Zalman 9500 LED @ $50

Power Supply: Enermax Liberty 620watt @ $110

Optical: Nec ide dvd-burner(already have this)
Lite-on black IDE DVD Burner @ $29

TV Tuner: Hauppauge Wintv-PVR-150 @ $72

Monitor: Samsung 226BW @ Already have this

Anyways I have some questions about the computer above first is the ide dvd-burners. I would really like to reuse the old ide burner i have and perfer to have 2 dvd burners for easy of copying discs and just having two drives. What I am wondering though is it gonna be ok to have sata and ide? Also is an SATA dvd burner faster then an ide burner read or write wise? Also if yes then can I have one ide dvd burner(my old one) and one sata dvd burner(new one)?

I just bought all my computer parts and I chose an SATA dvd burner over an IDE burner. The only real difference is that there aren't as many SATA dvd burners out there and that with SATA you don't have a darn ribbon cable. ( better airflow )

mixing ide and sata is fine, there are still occasionally some capability issues with sata dvd drives (though I have been using them for a while). Main benefit as harobikes333 says is the lack of ribbon cable (which impedes airflow), though satacables have their own issues (realy week connectors that break far to easily).

hmm i think i will just stick with a new ide burner if its not faster. I think I will get a round ide cable to help with airflow.

Change the Zalman 9500 for the better 9700 and you're fine.

Regarding the TV Tuner

I've had this one for ~1 year.

It works well, and is cheaper than the one you chose
I don't know if it's on NewEgg

While it is cheaper according to the reviews its not that good of a card. I have a tv tuner right now but the picture is not that good and it doesn't have a hardware decoder so it takes up alot of cpu. I was looking for a tv tuner with very good picture, a hardware decoder and remote control. The Hauppauge seems to be best in these regards.

Do you have any older ide hard drives that you intend to put into this system?

I would try for a SATA DVD drive not an ide one since the Gigabyte mother board only supports 2 ide drives. You might want a second DVD drive if you do DVD copying. It goes much faster if you copy from 1 dvd drive to another.

I only have 2 ide drives I know it only has one ide port and a floppy port. I do not intend to put any of my old harddrives in my new computer since I am keeping my old computer intact minus one dvd burner and donating it.
