- Plan on overclocking?
- How soon will you upgrade again?
- ATI or nvidia preference? (Some people don't care, some do)
- buying Windows or "aarr matey me already has a copy" ?

Here's a decent stock system:
Asus A8N-E
A64 X2 3800+
2 GB RAM
7900 GT
Samsung Spinpoint HD
NEC DVD burner and Samsung DVD-ROM reader
XP Home OEM

AMD combo at Frys for $250 to $300
2 GB of ram about $150
Ati hot video card about $350
300 GB hard drive $100
DVD burner $50
$100 to MS to help pay for gas in Bills porsche.
Good PS $50

I recommend DFI for motherboard, 7900GT is good, remember to buy eVGA and not BFG or XFX. They are all great companies, but eVGA stands out better (better warranty policy).

I recommend Hitachi T7K250 for HD. Fastest drive out there next to the raptor. 7200.10 may change things, but it's too early to tell (waiting for benchies)

DVD good. NEC 3550 is good.

Have;
Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 ATX 12V V2.0 for AMD & Intel systems Power Supply
NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model ND-3550A

This is what im thinking;
CPU A64 X2 3800+
ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce
CORSAIR XMS 2 GB (2 x 1GB)

eVGA 256-P2-N564 Geforce 7900GT KO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
or
eVGA 256-P2-N563-AX Geforce 7900GT CO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
i dont know the differnce
Microsoft Windows XP Home or professional with SP2?

Any comments????

The KO card from eVGA has a better stock heatsink. Also, you don't really need XP Pro, XP Home is fine and it works with dualcore processors.
