Ok, here is what I am looking at.

Dfi lanparty sli
AMD 64 3400, which core is better?
2 gigs of ram (2x1024) or should I go with 1 gig (2x512) And I have no clue what brand I should use
6800 gt, what brands are good for these cards?
What is a good power supply, that can also support SLI if i decide to upgrade
I want a good LCD screen as well, what should I get?
Antec -160 case, with extra 120mm fan,

Is there anything else I am missing, it has been several years since I built a rig, this is a gaming machine.

Oh yeah, are the raptors worth it, or should I just go with a good 250GB drive?

You don't need Raptors, get the Seagate 250 7200.8 SATA drives, great reaction times. Put the money from Raptors into an X850 or 6800 Ultra / Faster CPU.

3400? You mean 3500? The commercially available 3400 is for socket 754 & wouldnt work on SLI. There is a 3400 for skt 939, but I haven't heard alot of good things about it. I would suggest either a 3000 skt939 if you're going to overclock or a 3500 skt939 if not.

For RAM, I would say go with 1gb if you're mostly going to be playing FPS games, or 2gb if you'll be playing MMORPG's. Go with ValueRAM if you're getting 2gb, if you're going with 1gb you could get some low latency sticks if you like.

Any 6800gt is going to smoke as far as in game performance goes, but I had a BFG card before & really enjoyed it. I have a Gigabyte now, but have yet to use it because the Raptor I bought is DOA. I would think most any of them would be good, so just go cheap...lol

I will leave the rest for someone else to tell you, but I have really enjoyed my Aerocool Jetmaster SS case...and it doesn't come with a power supply so all your money is spent on the case only. It is a bit too flashy for some people, but it really doesn't look so gaudy in person.

I think the 3400+ only comes in 754...

If you're buying everything new, I'd say go 939 and PCI-e as it will give you more options down the road for upgrades.

A 939 3200+ is a good price/performance ratio. You can go upto 3500+ too, but above that it gets really expensive.

Are you planning on doing any overclocking?

Unless you are doing intensive photoshop with large images, 1 gig is all you'll need. If you think you'll want to upgrade to 2 gigs later though, get a single 1 gig stick rather than 2x512 because 4x512 gets you a performance hit with A64.

There are several threads about good brands for 6xxx series nvidia cards. I think generally eVGA offers good cards for the price. BFG has great warranties.

If you're looking at SLI, make sure it's what you want. Not everything supports SLI and you're going to end up spending a lot to get two cards. A good alternative to a single 6800gt is the X800XL at $100 cheaper. It offers very similar performance in everything except Doom3. ATI doesn't have "SLI" yet though.

Seasonic makes very nice powersupplies. If you're going SLI, they make a very nice 600 watt one.

Some good LCDs are made by dell. The Hyundai L90D+ is another nice one.

The raptor offers a performance boost, but unless you've got money to burn, I don't think it's a good idea. I think you'd be better off spending the money saved on a better videocard or processor.

Check out my spec's in my signiture. If you buy online be carefull. Some dealers that don't have 800 numbers to call can be kinda sticky to deal with. Here is a couple of good sources.

New Egg (so far anyways)
Provantage (awesome customer support)

ZipZoomFly has been disappointing for me. They do have good prices and fast shipping just be careful that you are buying retail and not Bulk. I got stung on that one and also they can get you if the item is defective since they make you pay to ship it back and then you might have to argue with them on their defiinition of defective or not. (Long Story still in dispute).

I love this Raptor and look foward to getting another one soon. It's so fast it's amazing. And Western Digital has always treated me very well.

Good luck and email me if you have any other questions I can answer. I'm still putting the finishing touches on this bad boy.

Also check Monarch Computers for some good deals, including some nice mobo/cpu combos that come with FarCry/HalfLife2/4 months of Napster. Also, go to Pricewatch to find low prices on alot of components from different places. Be careful their though & make sure you are dealing with a reputable company.

Yeah, pricegrabber and pricewatch are good resources... but go to reseller ratings before you buy from a random online store.

There is a 3400+ for S939, though it's rare and it sucks. 4X HTT, etc. etc.

Another vote for the Hyundai ImageQuest L90 D+ LCD.

And another vote for going Socket 939, PCI-E.

And check out ChiefValue. Owned by the same company as NewEgg, they're VERY similar stores. However, I was able to get everything for my new rig at about $1 to $2 cheaper per item from ChiefValue vs NewEgg.

I don't think SLI is a good idea. You'd be better off getting a non-SLI board and maybe an X850XT if you really need to spend alot. Otherwise a single 6800 GT or even a X800XL is an excellent choice.
The X800 XL performs close to the 6800 GT and is cheaper, but the GT prices are quickly falling.
Now, do you plan to OC? If not then IMO you should stay away from DFI. It's a great board (although I personally do not like the layout), but it's made for OC'ing and has a bunch of settings that can get very confusing if you do not have the experience to understand them.
Everything else looks fine.
