New computer boots slowly...

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (running at stock with retail cooling)
ABIT KM400 Chipset Model "VA-10"
OCZ Ultra High Performance 512MB PC2700
WD 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache
Lite-On Black 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive
Integrated Sound, LAN, and Video

I am building a basic computer for a friend of mine. The problem is that it takes over a minute to get off the first screen when you turn it on. Everything it does seems really slow (detecting of IDE drives...). After waiting a while it will go to the next screen (that ends with "Boot from CD:"). After that comes a blank screen for a bit. I actually restarted it a couple of times, only to realize that if I waited even longer, it will say something to the effect of "Setup is analyzing your hardware configuration" (white text on black) and then go back to the blank screen.

In all my 6 years of building computers, I've never run into something like this. Help?

If the Western Digital is on an IDE cable by itself, jumper it for its Single Drive mode rather than Master or Slave, and see if that lights a fire under it 🙂
