built a new computer for someone and it takes about a minute for windows to boot (not counting bios). MB VIA KT400 KT4VL, XP 2000 CPU, 256 megs off DDR ram, HD 60GB|MAXTOR 7200RPM 6Y060L. fresh install of XP. Radeon 9000 video card. dosent that seem kinda slow?

my computer boots up faster and it has a scsi card where the scsi bios takes about 30 seconds lol. I havent reinstalled windows for about a year either. and im runnin an XP1800 so something isnt right there.

check the way you connected the drives maybe?.....master/slave/cable select...all the jumpers in their appropriote places...

chk in device manager if there are any conflicts and/or yet-to-be installed hardware...(usually the case...happened @ wwork...fixed the problem w/ this...ymmv)

it could be also that a certain pci device is messing w/ it also....

installed sp1 yet?......

maybe it was a bad winxp install?

install the via drivers....the 4in1's...miniport.......that might help too...

hope these help! good lucks 🙂

i pretty much did all that even the reinstall nothin seems to help, created bootlog and that didnt show much either. nothin besides loading drivers.

I THINK I KNW!

heheheh get a controller card...yes...

if you share the main OS harddrive w/ ANY drive....then be prepared for a slow boot...yes get a controller card to fix this problem....coimputer probably has a harddrive, burner, dvd...and only 2 slots on hdd...if u can't get a controller card, share both the drives on a single cable and make sure the hdd is connected w/ a 80pin cable! not 30!

well, hope those helps.....lemme knw!

it only has a hard drive and one burner. both on sepperate cables and yes im useing an 80pin cable on the Hard drive.
