New computer advice

Recently I was given 2 Opteron 2216 HE processors and a ASUS LIN64-SLI WS/B motherboard. My question is..should I invest in new ram and make this my new workstation or sell the parts on ebay? I have a Core 2 E6600 with 4GB of ram currently. Will I see significant gains across the board with the 2 x Opteron 2216 that justify the purchase of the expensive ECC ram?

Thanks!

Depends, what apps are you running currently? Do you do anything that would benefit from an additional pair of cores?

Who told you ECC RAM was expensive? It's about the same price as all other DDR2, finally. It's FB-DIMM's that are expensive. Now, what are you planning on doing with this system? If it's gaming, you're better off with your current system.

If you're doing any kind of rendering or editing then an extra pair of cores would come in handy. How much RAM would you need?
