Help!
I just spent close to a grand on new system parts and peripherals and I?m having a very strange problem.
I?m using a network card to connect to a cable modem. I can send and receive email, surf the Net and post to the newsgroups, but can?t download anything from the Web, and don?t receive login prompts from places like MSN Zone. Some pages, usually those involving Java or Flash, never load completely and even though I get the File Download dialog box, the progress bar either never starts to progress (on .exe files) or gets halfway and hangs (.pdf files). Eventually the server either resets or times out.
The only other notable symptom, and possibly unrelated, is that I get ?hiccups? when using the machine after it?s been on stand-by. I?ll be moving the mouse and the machine will suddenly lock up for a second, maybe two, and then resume. I?m not sure whether this is important, but if I move the mouse while the machine is locked, the pointer still starts in the same place it was in when the lockup occurred.
I know these are strange questions and conditions, but I?m honestly at my wits? end here. I?ve rebuilt the machine one piece at a time, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, including the ones for the motherboard. I am completely stumped. There are a few graphics problems as well, but as soon as I can download the nVidia Detonator drivers, those should clear up.
Any suggestions? Anybody (please!) encountered this kind of thing before?
Any help is much appreciated.
My system:
Pentium III 733 Mhz
Epox EP-3VCA2 Motherboard with VIA Apollo Pro 133a Chipset
Hercules Prophet II MX AGP Video Card
SoundBlaster PCI 512 Sound Card
Linksys LNE100TX Network Card
Maxtor 13Gb Hard Drive
64 Mb PC133 RAM
