i'm having some trouble getting my new system to boot. all i have plugged in right now is the cpu, gpu, dvd, and hdd. the problem is the monitor won't display anything, it just sits there and blinks at me. if i unplug the monitor, it says check connections. there is no OS yet. any ideas?

setup:
Albatron KX18D Pro II
AMD Athlon 2500 Barton
Samsung 16X DVD-ROM
Khypermedia CD-RW
WD 80 GB HDD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows XP Pro

Does any fans spin? Do you hear any beeping? When you push the power button, does anything happen? Have you checked your manual and your connections for your power button, etc? Try just putting in the video, ram, and cpu and boot...does this help?

all the fans spin, no beeping. when i press the power button, everything starts up, but the screen does nothing. it must get past the post because i have to hold the button down for a while for it to go off. i checked the motherboard manual and it said it was a ram problem. i had it down to vid, cpu, and ram before, but nothing happened then either. i thought it would have said something like no OS found or similar.

are all cards tested AGP cards? I had a dead AGP slot one time and found out by finding an old PCI Voodoo 3 layin around.

yeah, i just pulled the TNT2 from a system. also i tried taking the ram out and booting, it started beeping at me. at least the speaker works.

i don't think that it's even starting up because the monitor behaves the same if the computer is on or off

OK it was the bios. i switched to the recovery bios (thank you for the backup alb) and it booted up

The beeping when you took the memory out was probably a memory beep code. Perhaps you just have a bad stick of memory?
