Okie the last computer i've built was somewhere around 6yrs ago, haven't really kept up with much of anything since then. Need some help atm. I would like to keep my budget around 1,500 and i am willing to go above that but not that much.

I want the 8000gtx and at least 2gigs to start, with the ability to go more if needed. I haven't picked a PSU but i also dont know if the case is the best bet. I also want to use raid setup, ive been told its the best way to go.

I might be interested in getting a 10k rpm HD for the future for my gaming. Question is do i need to have Windows on the 10k along with the games installed (partitioned).

Also i do not want to overclock period. No if or ands. I want everything stock. I might look into it some day but right now i want it stock.

Still need a PSU, i was thinkin a Enermax, but how much watts? 700?

----- NEW BUILD ------

This is the latest build ive come up with. I think i will be ending up with this combo there. I was told the MOBO was a very stable motherboard in case i want to OC in the future. Im skeptical about the ram but i was told it was also good for OCing because they use micron d9. If everyone could give me some direction with this build, that would be great.

Big question right now, will i have any bottlenecking anywhere?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I want to make this a quality Rig that will last me antother six years. Anyways to make it any better? Or prehaps cheaper with better parts? What is the weakest link do you think?

Please lend me any ideas.

You should pick your parts in this order, as far as I'm concerned:
1) PSU
2) case
3) processor
4) mobo
5) RAM
6) video

Reasoning: PSU is one of the most important parts, and it shouldn't be the item that you get with the money that you have left from other parts. Get it first. Case is obvious, proccessor so that you can pick your mobo, RAM so that you can research it and be sure it is compatible with your mobo (damn 680i's), and then video last. Video last, because this is likely the next thing you are going to upgrade anyway...

Partitioning on the same drive does nothing for performance--it's simply an organizational tool. I'm not quite sure what you are asking... Can you purchase a Raptor (the only 10k rpm SATA drive available right now) later, and install just your games on there? Yes, you can, but that will require you uninstalling the games you have installed on your OS drive, and then installing them on the Raptor. But yes, you can certainly do that.

EDIT: RAID requires more than one drive. RAID 0 (striping) would give you *some* better performance, but I would never reocmmend it if it is your only hard drives. RAID 1 (mirroring) would be recommended if you want to make sure that you don't lose any information. Considering you are thinking about getting a Raptor later on, I wouldn't worry about it at all actually.

EDIT 2: Drop the GTX to a GTS, and get a good PSU. 😀

I'm defiantly willing to spend money on a good quality PSU, i know its one of the key components of making a good computer. i just don't know how i go around picking the correct amount of watts for all items i listed.

As for the question about about the 10k rpm drive. I was going to Partition a portion of the drive so its got windows only on 1 partition and games only on the second. The reason i was doing this is because i don't know if i will get a bottleneck running my OS on a 7200 rpm drive and games on a 10k. I don't know if it will make a difference or not.

I hope that clears the question.

Well, I'm using a rig somewhat like yours--my rig is one step down on the GPU and one step down on the CPU, but I also have a PCIe RAID controller with 7 hard drives in the system, and I'm using a Corsair 620w PSU. (See rig in sig for full details / description)

occording to http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088

it seems to me like a solid choice, as well as the good responses from newegg customers

Isn't 700W an overkill for this setup?? Something in 400w - 500w should do it. This might be good enough http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151024 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817139001 I have read good reviews for both of them.

good luck!
