Looking at putting together a new basic system. Web browsing, image editing. No gaming done at all.

Case: Antec Performance One P150
Proc: AMD Athlon 64 3200
Mobo: MSI K8NGM2-FID Socket 939
Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
HD1: SAMSUNG SpinPoint P80SD HD040GJ 40GB (SATA)
HD2: SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2504C 250GB (SATA)
DVD: NEC Beige IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3550A
Floppy: MITSUMI Beige 1.44MB 3.5" Internal USB2.0 8 in 1 Flo

The computer is being put in a bedroom so noise is an issue. I was gonna use the 40 gig drive as a system drive and the 250 for storage.

Any opinions/comments/recommendations.

Any help is appreciated as I havent built a computer in the past five years.

noise is an issue?

get a seasonic. install a zalman or artic freeze fan for the cpu, and install no case fans in or around your tower. if you're not using an expansion type video card, pull out any fans that come with your onboard video card and replace it with a larger copper heatsink.

Swap the stock fans out for Nexus 120mm fans, the stock ones aren't bad but nexus are better (if you can afford them, they aren't cheap).

The PSU isn't a bad one at all, i wouldn't bother swapping it out, SPCR consider it to be rather good.

Is that integrated graphics? Good choice if you can find some with a DVI output.

The spinpoints are as quiet as advertised btw, just got a 250GB PATA one (limited run aparently but i love it, 2514N for all you HD spotters out there)

40GB HDDs are at a terrible price point. Go for a 80GB or 120GB hard drive and get your money's worth. The FDD is probably superfluous, but to each his or her own. Where is your PSU? You might consider a custom heatsink/fan for your CPU to reduce noise even more. The retail AMD HSF can be noisy sometimes. Something cheap with a fan size of 92mm or 120mm will do well to your ears. ZALMAN is very well known as the quiet-computing solutions provider. Hope this helps!

Good point, for really low noise you'll want a scythe ninja and a nexus, TT big typhoon (possibly with a nexus instead of the stock), modded zalman 9500 (but not stock fan) or SI 120 with nexus or something similar.

Might as well go for a larger drive than the 40GB one, the increased noise shouldn't be a factor if you're just going to 80GB and for the tiny increase in cost you might as well.
