I'm gonna build a new comp : duron 600, geforece2 MX, 20 gb 7200RPM (budget Gaming and University PC). The problem is that I 'm gonna buy it in about the middle to the end of October when my classes start again. But that's when DDR motherboards SUPPOSEDLY (or not) come out. All the previews point out to a significant gain (anand, sharky, ace's). Would anyone happen to know about when the DDR motherboards come out? All replies welcome.

P.S. That 20gb 7200 HD will be Maxtor or Quantum. Which is better?
P.P.S. I once heard that there were problems with duron600's which were made after week21 and Abit KT7 which needed a bios update. Is this true? Also, does the ASUS A7V always have dipswitches from now on or not?

A lot of questions so thanks in advance for answers.

I like maxtor better quantum. i like ibm hds the best then western digital. as for the duron 600 on the kt7, you shouldnt have a problem.

I'd prefer Quantum.

And yes, all new A7V's have dip switches. Mine had, bought it ~2weeks ago...

From the looks of things your not putting together a cutting edge pc anyway. So why worry about DDR?

thanks for the replies,

I want a MB that will last and that's why I want DDR. Also it probably won't cost much more than usual SDR motherboars (I think, I hope...).

There isnt a big advantage of DDR RAM, I think it would be around Decemeber before you see any around,

I would get a Duron 600 + Abit KT7 + GeForce 2 MX + Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 40 20Gb

THe Tai Sol HSF is also good for cooling

mmmm, December is too late, quess it'll be normal sdram motherboard.
Still not sure if I'll take an A7V or KT7 though, but it probably doesn't make much of a difference.
Oh yeah, are golden orbs any good for overclocking? It's the only good cooler that my local retailer sells.

thanks for advice AMB
