Big thread about it here

Article here

Trailer here

Theres not much info on it apart from whats in that article. No new faction, different gameplay alltogether as theres no base building! You command a small group of units or just 1 tank, in a traditional RTS manner or using the direct-fire mode where you control the tank or directly with the keyboard and using the mouse to aim. It has 3 campaigns with 3-4 missions each. I dunno, 9-12 missions dosent sound like much and it sounds the hell of a lot like Soldiers: Heros of WWII, which i made a thread about like yesterday.

Could be a lot of fun, its definately different to what i expected, which was an eastern expansion with the russians or something like that.

Nice, like some of the squad-based RTS of old. Should be sweet. Would be even sweeter if they just bought out Massive or bought the rights to World In Conflicts game engine and ported all the CoH titles over. :)

Sounds like Dawn of War2...

Expanding CoH with some of the same thing they are planning in DoW2 which is out Q1 2009.

Hmm, sounds different that's for sure. I'll reserve judgment until some reviews come out. I was kind of hoping for an Eastern European expansion too, or a North Africa campaign.

To me, it almost sounds like those missions in StarCraft or Dawn of War where you get a certain group of units at the start of the mission, and then you might get more units transferred to you as you explore the map or complete certain objectives.

I really like Company of Heroes but I won't be buying this expansion. Unless there are new units or something. But the rest of the features sound utterly useless.

Whoa, nice! It looks like they took a page from Face of War. I always wondered what it would be like if the two games' gameplay styles were combined.

I'm already VERY disappointed. I understand that COH is all about the allied campaign, but I was hoping they would finally focus on the Russian front in the 3rd expansion...

Imagine how much more awesome this game would be when some new units would be added into the mix like T-34's, Katushas, IS-2's, SU-122's, etc.

To me, it seems like it would be more of the same in a way. The Katyusha would just be a Russian Calliope, and the regular tanks would be a bit too similar to the German counterparts. I like that they're taking it in a different direction.

Russians are coming in the sequal, just like new races are being brought in for DoW2, along with the old shit.

They could do some things to make the Russians different. 8-9 man squads with attached commisars who could execute their own to unpin the squad, for instance.

Either way, I'm looking forward to anythign COH.

I'm kind of glad they didn't add 2 more armies. It's hard enough for them to balance 4 armies, 6 would be a nightmare. Just hurry up and release the patch please.

Sounds like Myth. Should be fun. I'm not very good at traditional RTSs where you have to build a base, gather resources, etc. Company of Heroes has appealed to me because resource gathering is an integral part of advancing, capturing territory, and defending it, which is something you have to do anyway. Removing the base-building aspect (perhaps as though you're controlling a detached unit in the field, behind enemy lines) should be interesting. Maybe you'll have to rely on supply drops or breaking through enemy defenses to open up supply lines.

I don't know if the Direct Fire thing applies to the Multiplayer though. That's really what I'm looking forward to. The new modes from what I have heard sound epic.

What a pile of steaming shit.

I love the type of tactical combat that CoH and DoWII have to offer, however, I have yet to purchase either expansion for CoH. Care to explain why this expansion is so bad? Is Opposing Fronts any good?

Op Fronts is pretty damned good. Very much the same vain as CoH. Valor feels like a tutorial the whole way through and its shoooooooooort.

Tales of Valor is basically a way to get all the multiplayer content of the previous two plus a few new gameplay modes and units on the cheap. The single player is worthless, each campaign plays like a trumped up version of each new multiplayer mode. Thing is, each new multiplayer mode sucks (well, the defense one is ok). So basically, you're just getting a few new units that probably shouldn't exist.
