okay so the computer is an antique 486.. at a whopping 33mhz..

it started having erros that the cmos battery was low.. this is after (well how long has it been since the 486 came out?) anyway.. I got the new battery put that sucker in and now I get the same error.. That the cmos battery is low. I have yet to check any voltages..

I'm just wandering since this is a nimd/MAH60 does the mother board actually charge these batteries when they are plugged in and on?

Next step is to check my soilder job make sure that it is making connection..

just wandering if anyone else has any other info on the thing..

thanks.

Yes Check your solder job---Why'd you solder in the first place?--or upgrade your mobo....It's not that expensive these days either. I found a 1.1Ghz Processor and Mobo for $35 on ebay.

it's a wonderful old motherboard that the battery is actually solder to.. so didnt' have a choice.. as for why nto upgrade.. it's an old guys buisness (I dont' know why you'd have a 486 for that!) and he wants it fixed.. man.. I sure don't wanna mess up the freaking hard drive.. I dont' remember dos commands anymore!

Lepper,

Where did you get the replacement battery for that board?
Chances are that if you didn't radically sink the heat during the soldering, you damaged it.

Is there a pin header near the battery for a replacement EXTERNAL battery?
A lot of those vintage boards had that capability.

The battery looks like THIS.

Just a post to let ya know and for anyone else searching for the fix..

it isn't the battery :(

The motherboard has developed a short and is instantly grounding out the battery..
