New clicking Raptor

I just purchased a new OEM Raptor X recently. Finally, it arrived today and I decided to hook it up. All was well until 20% into the formatting process, where it started making clicking noises and the process halted eventually. I was then unable to access the drive from BIOS upon reboot. I tried switching the SATA channels, cables, etc but nothing seemed to work. Everytime the system starts up the drive would make clicking noises until I could get into BIOS. By then the noises stopped but I was still unable to access it. Is this a sign of a defective harddrive?
