New center speaker help.

I purchased 2 av123 x-ls speakers and 1 x-cs speaker back in August. I immediately set the x-ls speakers up because I had room for them and set the x-cs in the corner in its "sock" until my new plasma stand was delivered.

Fast forward to today and I finally received my plasma stand. I was extremely excited to get the x-cs hooked up. Much to my disappointment it seems like both of the woofers in the speaker aren't working at all. The sound is very quiet compared to the other x-ls speakers and does not sound right at all. I have triple checked everything and narrowed the issue down to the speaker...

1. I thought it might be the speaker wire so I used the same speaker wire with one of my x-ls speakers and it worked just fine.

2. I thought it might be my receiver doing something wonky with the center channel but when I plug an x-ls into the center output it sounds great.

3. Finally I plugged the x-cs into the front left output on the receiver but the sound was awful confirming it isn't a receiver issue.

I don't really know what else to try. Has anyone heard of such a problem? Is it more common for both woofers in a speaker to not work or just one of the two?

Could be a crossover problem causing both woofers to not play back rather than the woofers themselves being damaged. Sounds like you have indeed narrowed it down to the speaker itself being the problem.

Call AV123 and they'll take care of you :)

This might be something you can take care of on site easily (especially if something just came loose in shipping and you're comfortable opening them and perhaps soldering) otherwise they'll make sure you get a fully functioning one.

Hey Yoyo... I bought these speakers on your recommendation, last time I listen to you! Kidding of course. I love my av123 speakers. I have two x-mtms, 2 x-lss and 1 x-cs. I will be moving up to the reference line next year :)

Yeah, I posted a message on the av123 forum and Mark replied in about 10 minutes. He said it was likely a crossover issue and that they had problems with a batch of x-cs speakers. I think I am going to send them back to get the newly reinforced version. I haven't done much electronics soldering in a long time so best leave it to the pros.

Thanks!

Not to shabby hearing back from the founder / CEO of the company 10 minutes after you have a problem ;)

I haven't heard any of the reference line, but you're looking to upgrade already? :p

There are a lot of new X-Series products coming out soon if you want to consider those.
