New CenDyne Rebates at OfficeMax???

Was looking at the Cendyne rebates pdf at OfficeMax and noticed that the dates have changed to 3/31-4/28 and they have also added the 40X burner in the $30 rebate listing.

New Cendyne rebates at OfficeMax

Looks like a new set of CenDyne rebates for this Sunday, and possibly the 40X burner on their site or B&M?

(looked to see if this was a repost and didn't find it so hopefully this is relatively new info)
 
I looked on CenDyne's web site, and while they have the specs listed for the 40X they don't even have a picture of it. Must be very new.

Of course, the question is who actually makes the 40X - probably CyberDrive (which has gotten very good reviews as I understand it).

Tempting... I've been very happy with my TDK 24X burner - extremely stable and fast, and my wife really likes the fact that the tray color matches her blue case! (yeesh! oh well...).

Still, a full CD in 3 minutes or under sounds nice!
 
r u sure its a full cd under 3 minutes? the 32x is only like 20-30 secs faster than the 24x. i'm talking about lite-on's here and my 24x lite-on does a 650mb cd in roughly 4:20. i've seen the boxes for the 40x cendyne at OM b&m... but did not really inspect it (its a green box i think).

No - I don't know much about cdrs.

This is from a review of the Plextor 40X at cdrlabs.com. Shows time for 651mb 3:26 and for 701mb 3:31.

Here's a 40X roundup at CDR-Info. They say the Cendyne 40X is a Lite-On. Haven't read much of the article yet.

Hopefully, the drive won't be too much over $150, then people can use the $30 off $150 link - $30 rebate to make the drive affordable.

This should also drive down the price on the 32X.

650MB in 4:20? Spanky I just did the Go! soundtrack(approx 650MB) in 3:23( CyberDrive CW058D 32x12x48) so a 40x or even a 48x should show some decrease in times. (2:28 for 434MB Pink Floyd DarkSide of the Moon same CyberDrive)
 
hoep this is gonna be another one of those 24x $35, 32x $55 deals! cuz will upgrade my 16x to a 40x if its dat good a price!
 
Is there even media out there that can burn at 32-40x? The last 100x spindle I got at OM only is rated for 8x I believe...so I'm sitting on about 150 8x. Not much incentive to upgrade my 6x 🙁
 
There is media out there that can burn at 32x and 40x. Your 8x media can probably burn at 12x or even 16x.
 
Just remember Parago i.e. RebatesHQ is Office Max's fullfillment center for rebates. RebatesHQ may or may not recognize the new rebates until questioned. I sent in a Feb. rebate submission in Feb. (within the Office Max specification for the rebate). They swore it was untimely, RebatesHQ was trying to process my rebate as a Jan. rebate.
 
I sent in a rebate for the 32x in mid april.. and just got confirmation back..
but ONLY for 20$.. not 30$..
The 24x gets 20$.. but I bought the 32x it gets 30$ !..
Darn them..

They said its officemax's fault..
I said they are going to have numerous people unhappy that they
are getting screwed out of 10$..

RebatesHQ says all 3 drives (24x,32,40) get 20$...this is false.

e-mail has been forwarded to a special escalation team"

Now, when I check, they say it is INVALID. (funny, it was valid before, now they don't want to pay, so they now say invalid).

I have sent a complaint to Cendyne, AND OfficeMax, telling them of this shady company, and I am awaiting a reply from them.

I am also thinking of sending a e-mail to the A.G, since this is bait & switch.

Bottom line is don't trust those rebates, until they get this issue resolved!

That is when you are buying cat in a box with coupons.

Again , once again, go to newegg, get Cyberdrive 36x12x48 for $72 (no coupon, no shipping, no tax, no bull) total.
The evaluations on this drive are not available yet but it's brother 32x12x48 got really good ones. Newegg ships promptly and you don't have to negotiate with managers and scavenge for serial numbers or flash Verbatim.
 
Got the same email confirmation 🙁

"Incidentally", Omax/RebatesHQ also screwed up about six months ago for the Iomega CD-RW deal. The difference back then was $20. At least Iomega/RebatesHQ were willing to issue the additional checks for the difference.

Perhaps we are seeing a pattern from Omax/RebatesHQ?
 
I just got a call from my friend, and he also got the $20 instead of $30 notice.

I haven't received a response from any of the parties after I complained...


I do recomend that everyone with this issue e-mail OfficeMax, the rebate chumps, and Cendyne. (It can't hurt!)

 
Ah, glad I checked this thread. I got the B.S. $20 rebate email a few days ago. I think I'll try speaking with an Office Max manager first. I don't want to waste my time with this rebate & switch crap.
 
currently the 40x is priced at $179, but as soon as the hivals, iomagic and polaroids are *unloaded(sold to unsuspecting buyers) *,the 40x will be on sale for $99 after rebate.

OM tends to alternate(biweekly) advertised products in certain categories (ie Memory -- Rkbyte and Kingston)


btw the spinx branded cdrs are not imation-- as advertised.

people are returning them in droves.
 
Here is the story so far, after waiting and waiting, and sending a few more e-mails to the rebateHQ guys, my status went from VALID SUBMISSION (with wrong rebate amount ($20) to UPC CODE not sent to SERIAL # not sent to BOTH UPC CODE & Serial # not sent, to VAILD SUBMISSION (with wrong rebate amount, still $20.00), to VALID SUBMISSION with the *option* of picking a $30.00 rebate check exact words were "You can choose any one of the items below as your rebate reward. There is no extra cost to you. ", so I FINALLY can choose the $30.00 rebate check that I should have had as default, and not the $20.00 rebate check which was the default. It Did take 6 e-mails to get it listed correctly though <http://forums.anandtech.com/i/expressions/rolleye.gif> .... now, I HOPE I get it 'within the next 30 days.'

My liteon 24X will burn 12X memorex (ritek) media at 24X no prob.

 
I bought the CenDyne 24x drive 2 months ago when they had the deal going. The drive would start to chatter as it spun up when reading then start producing read errors.

OfficeMax has a 14 day return policy that I exceeded trying to make it work. Have gone through $(!! trying to get it RMA'd. After 3 weeks of trying to contact CenDyne customer support via e-mail with NO response, I finally reached them on the phone and got an RMA number. Sent the drive to them 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing.

If you go to the forum on their web site, you'll see many similar stories from customers.

:| IF YOU MUST BUY FROM CENDYNE MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT GET AN ACER DRIVE :| Acers have a 24 place serial number similar to:

99B771205120342644PWP000

Just hope I can keep others from the same mistake!


 
Why bother with this drive......Newegg has the Lite-On 32x and 40x burners (Retail Box) in stock for $70 and $83 respectively.

THANKS to everyone that reminded me about this. I sent in a $30 rebate for the 32x Cendyne deal back in April. After a couple weeks I get an e-mail telling my dates were invalid. Thought to myself wtf because I was positive I had sent in all the correct info, then decided to cover all my bases and mail back in another rebate form w/ a copy of my reciept to the resubmissions department. I just checked the status of my rebate today, and I may actually get TWO $30 checks! Apparently they fixed the error saying my original rebate had invalid dates, and I switched the $20 they wanted to send me to the $30 rebate. On top of that, my resubmission is showing up as a completely new one 🙂 Hope they are stupid enough to send me both checks, they sure deserve it.
