New Cell Phone Question

Currently, I'm on my family's PCS Free & Clear Plan (Sprint)...I want to buy a new phone, because mine is teh broken...I'm looking at the 8200...First, anybody have suggestions for a good sprint-compatible phone? Secondly, if I buy one here or off ebay, do I have to pay to put it on the plan, or can I just swap the phones out and get my number transfered? Anybody done this before? Enlighten me with your wisdom, o might anandtechers...
