new cdrw won't open...

I just built a new computer and the cdrw shows up in the bios, but when I try to put in a cd, the button just seems to have no effect. If I use the "paper clip" trick, I can get a cd in, but when I try to boot from it, it doesn't read it... Did I install something wrong? I can't imagine the brand new cdrw being broken and still registering in the bios... Any ideas?

Try using another power supply lead and see if that helps or try swapping it for one from another internal harware device (CDRom, DVD etc) that you know works.

hmmm, tried that, and it did open once by its own power, but now its back to doing nothing again. I don't think its the power supply, thats new too (Fortron 350)... Could it possibly be because its E-IDE? Is there some bios setting that will help me set up this beast? (Abit IS-7)

Just hook a power cable up to it and leave the ide cable off of it. If it won't open now, then the drive has a defect.
