New CD-RW w/ media problem

Earlier today I picked up a BUSLink 52x24x52 CD-RW drive and installed the version of nero that came with it. (for some reason the older version I already had installed didnt wanna detect the cd-rw at all)

After the installation, I went to select my drive (I still have the other burner installed) and I select the new 52X. But when I throw in a blank Sony 80min/700mb cd-r, that 52x is now a 24x. However, this isnt the case when I throw in the blank CD-R that came with the burner.

On the box it says it recommends Sony cd-r's... so I dunno what the problem could be. I really hope Im not limited to BUSLink media...

I installed the latest nero off the their site with no luck.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Quench

Every burner reads the ATIP when you insert a recordable into it. If it sees that the ATIP only supports a max of 8x write, that is your max write speed, and if it detects 16x media, it'll give you 16x max write speed, and so on.

Either the burner is reading the ATIP wrong, which I highly doubt, or the media you got is packaged wrong.

today i just got a buslink 48x12x48 (lite-on 48x24x48) and went to burn a cd using new Fuji 48x media i bought today also. I had nero do a determine max speed before writing and it found 24x. I just assumed that was normal for some mp3 burning but the same 24x as you get is a little interesting.
