I need to get a new CD-RW.

Would appreicate suggestions. As well as CD burning software that might come
with the burner. Which ones are good vs which ones are crap?

Lite-ons and their rebadged forms have the best price/performance. So that's probably the best choice.

If you get a true Lite-on, it'll come with Nero and InCD, which are a capable pair for most of your needs.
