i bought a new cd-rw drive today and decided i was gonna install it myself. well, as usual i screwed it up! anyways, i read the directions and got to the part about the jumper switch and from there on, it got a little too technical for me. so i plug the the cables and everything in and boot up the computer and it says i dont have a cd-rom drive or a cd-rw drive. if anyone knows what ive done wrong and would be kind enlighten me, it would be greatly appreciated. i believe the jumper switch is not set up right if that helps at all. thanks guys

It's simple really and you will learn alot by the time you are done.
First what are you system specifications?
Manufacturer?
processor speed?
how much ram?
how many drives?

then we will go from there........

How do you have it set up now? Do you have it set up as a Secondary Master, Primary Slave?

primary master is the hard drive, secondary master is the cd-rw, and the secondary slave is the cd-rom

Have you tried changing the two? Change pins and cable locations. Or try this just put in the cdrw as secondary master, with the master pin settings and see if you can get it to read this. If not, have you tried putting bach the cd rom the way it was? Sometimes working backwards putting things back the way they were you might see where you went wrong (maybe wrong cable location)
