After installing my new PlexWriter 8/4/32A, both of my CD drives (the Plextor and my reader) have no drive letter under My Computer. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running Win2K and using the onboard (BX chipset) IDE controller.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

do they show up at all, or are they just sitting there with a icon but no drive letter assignments?

if they don't show up at all, then check your master/slave settings to make sure you set them, and make sure all the cables are properly seated.

if that doesn't help, I don't know what else to tell ya, someone will help though.

Okay, time for some more detail. The cables are all firmy seated, in fact, the drives still work. More accurately, the CD-R drive still works. DiscJuggler finds it and burns CDs to it. It will also make an image from my CD-ROM drive - they physically work.

Win2K just doesn't want to give the drives letters - they don't show up under My Computer at all. In the Windows drive manager, they show up in 'Removable Storage' as "Media Pools." They used to show up as just another drive under the drive manager, alongside my hard drives and my Zip. Now it appears as a tape drive (?) or something like that.

If you could walk me through what you're saying, I would much appreciate it.

I have tried everything I can think of inside the "Computer Management" applet and nothing works.

Well, it seems somehow my registry got messed up. I dug down into it and deleted some keys, cleaned up some others, and in general made my registry look a lot more like that of my roommate. After rebooting, I could magically see my CD icons.

Weird, but it worked. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I tried them all the best I could, but the registry hacking is what finally fixed the problem.
