New CD-Player or MP3 player?

Hey there, my current cd-player is going off the deap end, it gets about 3hrs of battery life now 😱. I've had alot of CD players in the past and almost all of them have kicked on me. I listen to music constantly and I download alot of music also, what I wana know is, is the sound quality on an MP3 player playing 312kbps mp3's comperable to a regular cd player?, and is it worth the extra cash?. I like the Idea of being able to pack crap loads of music on one cd, but I'm not quite sure what MP3 cdplayer is the best. Any help/advice would be great 🙂

My brother got a Nomad Jukebox for christmas. That thing is really cool. The only problem is you have to edit the information for each song to get it to display properly. 20GB of music all in one is really nice though. Once you fill it up, you will almost never have to replace the songs. Also, once you hit a 192kb/s data rate for MP3s, the quality really starts to come close to a CD. 312kb/s will definitely give you some pretty good sound. Just make sure you get some nice headphones to go with it.

everyone hears different things. what do YOU think? after all you download alot of music 🙂

I personally can't normally hear any difference between 192 and CD quality... or VBR with a minimum of 128 and a couple of other options (take a look at R3Mix.net for more info on that).

btw the proper number I think should be 320kbps not 312kbps.

now as for if it's worth it.. first of all, you're sure that your CD player is at fault, not your batteries? ie., if you are using rechargeables, they DO go bad after a while (even if you discharge them completely before recharging).

now, as for what MP3/CD player is the best, there's now the iMP-350 which is like the iMP-250/SP-250 which I have when it comes to functionality, only I think it has a better FM tuner (mine seems to be a local only FM tuner) and the shock protection algorithms might be (this hasn't really been tested though) better, though this isn't due to MORE memory (it already has something like 30 megs)..

the iMP-100, iMP-250, iMP-350 (AKA SlimX) are all made by a Korean company called iRiver. They supplied SonicBlue with their RioVolts (SP-90, SP-100, and SP250) which were rebadged under the RioVolt name.

the iRiver iMP-350 can be obtained at iriveramerica. that is the only place you'll be able to find the iMP-350 in America, except for a couple of stores (which no doubt are hard to find).

as for the other iRiver products, they're harder to find in America, often you'll have to order overseas. in which case you might want to go for the RioVolt models.

now, the only other competitors in this arena I can see are one by Sony (I can't remember the number on it, but it's on their website), and one by TDK which is called the Mojo. I think they have a new one coming out, or out already.. I can't remember.
