Hey, I just got a brand new aluminum case from Skyhawk, and I transfered my mb from my old one to it, and added a new harddrive and zipdrive. For some reason though my old ECS K7SEM mb is having problems booting. It will start up and show me how much ram memory I have and then it wll just freeze. I can't use my keyboard or anything. Does anyone have any clue why this could be, or does anyone have this motherboard and know what kind of problems I could be having? Thanks.

ECS mb are buggy. they will just go bad like that for no reason. make sure you did not ground the mb to the case. make sure everything is seated properly. ram, video, cpu, etc.. Also the ECS may not like your power supply, so try your old one in your box first.

lastly take your board out and run it over with your car. ;)

or try to rma it.

Could be PSU problem, did you try it without the zipdrive and the new harddrive if it`s the 2nd HD you added?Try clearing the CMOS as well.

It's probably a problem with your case or PSU. My first guess would be that it's the new hardware. My second would be that it's the I/O faceplate on your your new case.

But first try unplugging the new HD and zip drive and running it as it was originally setup. The BIOS may be having some trouble identifying the new hardware or be expecting something else in that slot. If that helps, make sure you set the devices in the BIOS to "None" before booting with them attached.

If that doesn't work, you can try swapping in your old PSU (if you changed PSUs that is). Make sure the only standoffs in the case are ones that are actually being used to hold the mobo down. Oh, use your old I/O faceplate if possible.

If that all fails, try moving it all back into the old case. Despite Adul's bias, it's probably not the mobo's fault.

Well... I switched my mobo for my old one, a P2 450mhz p2898-xv mb. It's jumping up fine and looking pretty good but I am trying to install my copy of Windows 2000, and it won't work. It will boot from cd, and pop up the blue screen with the preinstallation info, and then when its about to start up the acuall install it will say "Setup is starting Windows 2000 and just freeze. I left it on for 20 mins 3 times and now I think its probably just a corrupted disk but does anyone know why else this could be?

Check the IDE cables from the CDROM and hard drive. I've had "unable to install Windows" problems as a result of bad IDE cables before.
