New case for i7 build

Well, on the last upgrade cycle I wanted to get away from the full tower case I had (Thermaltake Xaser series) that was a beast to lug around. So I went with a Lian Li case that is built like this one except is the next size case down. It only has 3 internal 3.5 inch bays, and 4 external 5.25 bays. It's much smaller, but very cramped inside. So I've decide to get a new case for this build.

I love the current Lian Li, with the exception of it's too small. A friend has the PC-V1200B and I loved it (exact same as my case just bigger). Well, it appears as though Lian Li is phasing out that series of case and only has the silver of the V1200 series at Newegg. It's also $270 which is more then I would like to spend (although for a good case it's worth it IMHO).

The other case I fell in love with when it was released was the CM Cosmos. It has the benefit of being $80 cheaper, but might not be as clean inside (especially annoying to deal with the HD cage crap, the Lian Li just has oversized screws that slide into rails and is super easy).

I do love the reverse ATX style of the Lian Li as well, but can live with standard ATX style of the Cosmos. So, anybody have any thoughts/suggestions/other cases to look at?

Edit: Here are the options currently:

Lian Li PC-V1200- Same series as my current case which I love, but is $210 at Sundial Micro. Has wheels, 6 3.5 inch bays mounted sideways, with very easy to add/remove HD's. Reverse ATX, and may have cooling issues (my current case isn't the best case for airflow).

CM Cosmos- It's $170 at the egg, has soundproofing build in, a tool less design, lots of cable management features. The downside is that it's fairly heavy. No window (which isn't a big deal either way, but kind of cool to have I suppose), and I'm not sure how I feel about the HD cages. They may be annoying to have to deal with.

Silverstone TJ07- First off, it's $330 at the egg. It's also big, and kind of heavy. The upside is it's a very well designed case IMHO, supports dual PSUs (although the only reason I'd use this is if I modded the case to fit a second system in it, which would be VERY unlikely but something I've always kind of wanted to do). It's a very nice looking case on the outside.

Silverstone TJ09/TJ10- The TJ09 is $270, the TJ10 is $300. The TJ10 has a removeable mobo tray (does the 09 have it also?) and door on the front. I do like the design, and multiple case fans (or at least positions for them).

ABS Black Pearl - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...0&ref=dynamitedata.com

Don't be fooled by the name or price, this is a Lian Li. It's a rebadged PC-V2000B. It has 8 3.5" internal mounts, 6 5.25" bays, the reverse ATX you like and as far as lugging around it is very light. My rig in it is about as light as the same components in my old much smaller antec 300

First of all New Egg is horrible for pricing on Lian Li cases. You want to go to Sundial Micro for your Lian Li case. I've bought my last 2 Lian Li cases from them. They are generally 50$ or more cheaper than New Egg. Good Luck!

How about Zalman GS1000 from Amazon? ($166 free s/h)

Edit: Wow, I just saw that ABS Black Pearl and I have to say that is a better deal than the GS1000, unless you want the built-in hot swap bay.

Forgot to mention, the ABS has a built in fan controller for up to 4 fans. It turns my yate loons down to ~830RPM and is silent to my ears ;)

While you did mention that $270 was too much, you didn't really set a price range.
If you're looking for an economical, fairly tool-free, good quality case you might want to consider the Lancool PC-K62.
Basically, it's the same case as the Lian Li PC-P50 except in a steel version for half the price. :)

I'm not a huge fan of the way the case is setup. It's bottom 1/2 seems very large and has a lot of wasted space it appears. Also, it seems that there might be issues with cable lengths (namely power). Why is there so much wasted space above the PSU? It seems that you could almost fit 2 mobos in that case it's so large (definitely if the second is ATX). It would work, but I like the V1200 I posted in the OP more.

Thanks for the link! I do like Newegg to at least look at cases, and have bought them all from there in the past. I'm not against going elsewhere, but in general I just buy the entire system from one place at the same time (or did with my current rig). The V1200 I linked to in the OP is there for $215, which is $35 cheaper then the egg.

I do like the hot swap bay idea. If I could find a case that I liked with it (Lian Li does have one, but not a fan of the rest of the case or the size of it), I'd be all over it. The Zalman has the plastic front which I'm not a fan of, but more importanly no active cooling in the HD area and looks to use an all negative pressure design. I'm not a fan of that cooling style for PC cases.

I haven't set a price, because I am very picky with my cases. Once I find one I really like, price isn't as much of a concern. That said, I also don't care to drop $300+ on a case that I'll use for 2-3 years and upgrade to a new one. Ideally something in the $150-250 range would be where I'm at.

That case isn't too bad, and for $100 is pretty nice. It looks like it's the P50, except has the HD's rotated 90 degrees (which is my preference anyways), among some other minor differences. It's definitely one I'll keep in mind. Thanks!

Thanks for all the info/thoughts/comments everybody. It's very helpful, and I'm looking at cases I might not have otherwise.

There is extra space around the HD area to make ventilation for them less constrained. The extra room above the PSU is to make room for a redundant "double" PSU. There's a removable frame that opens it up to fit one in. If you're just using a normal PSU it has two 80mm fan mounts

Cable lengths weren't a problem for me. CPU power and ATX were fine, SATA power was fine, PCI-e was fine. I'd imagine you might need extenders if you used the top couple of 5.25 bays or had a GPU mounted in one of the top couple expansion slots but it's really not bad
