New case --> Computer won't turn on

I got a new case and today I transferred everything from my old shoddy case to a newer one. Reconnected all the wireds, cables, and stuff. Tried to turn it on and nothing happens. At all. At first I thought I might have put the pwr jumpers and reset jumpers incorrectly, I tooke em off, checked, and put them back on. When I reestablished contact, I noticed that there was a slight electrical whine-discharge -- a sound like when the CRT switches back on after being on sleep mode. Don't know if this is related/symptomatic of my problem.

Can anyone help?

Make sure that the mobo doesn't have any dodgy conections to the case. In both my last mobos / cases for some reason the bottom right/front depending on where you are standing) part of the mobo was too close to the case or something. Sticking my fingers behind the mobo and pulling it out a bit more (so it was level with the rest of the mobo) did the trick.

If all else fails try taking the mobo out of the case and try to turn it on out of the case.

Definitely sounds like some type of power/grounding issue.

Try removing the MB and reseating it in the case - as suggested in the previous post. It could also be a connection in the microswitch at the front of the case - try using a jumper across the power on connector on the MB. You just have to put it on and take it off momentarily - this will cause the system to power up if all else is fine.

Did you check the voltage switch on the back of the power supply? I made that mistake once took me a week to figue it out. the switch should be on 115 here in the US. Just A thought.

Try pushing and holding in the power on button on the front of the case for about 5-10 seconds then let it out see if this helps, and sometimes you have to also push the on/off switch on the back of the power supply then hold in the front button for 5-10 sec. then change your power on specs in the bios.

I had the same problem with my last build. What I eventually did was take everything out, and just put the MB in and tried to get it to start with that, if it booted up with just the MB/CPU/MEMORY, and then started to install the cards one at a time, starting with the video card of course, and after that everything worked great.

I had a similar problem with an Enlight case. Turned out to be a hard drive in the drive cage was pressed up against the M/B and grounding it out. I move the drive a little, and that solved the problem. Kal-El gave really good advice.

Take MD out of case, place on flat surface with no metal under it. Plug the Power Supply into the MD, add the Video card, RAM that is all. Try it then if it start then try HD cables/floppy cable. If there is a short or ground you will find it out fast.

Yeah, 1 time when i was upgrading my computer I had a loose screw that was underneath motherboard that was shorting it out. Also make sure you have the atx power cable plugged into you mboard.

Hi guys, I tried all your suggestions: I unseated the MB, took out all the cards and tried to boot up w/ only CPU + RAM. No dice. Tried to boot it out of its case. No dice.

Any other ideas?

Try using the old PS, the one might be dead.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was getting tired.

Anyhow, my system is an old Athlon 500, running on an old Asus K7M mobo, 128 megs of Ram, DVD-ROm, HD, Floppy, and trying to install a CDR right now. Running off an Antec PP-303TX ATX 300W power supply. At least, formerly running at that power supply. The video Card I'm using is a Guillemot TNT2 maxi gamer cougar. The case I'm using right now is a Landmark 299-something or the other. The old case was some cheap all-metal construction with lots of sharp edges. I don't recall seeing any brand name on it.

First, I checked the power switch by switching the jumpers around w/ the reset button. Still no dice, so what I did was unplug everything, took it all out, and then put back the mobo, screwed it back in, connected the PS, and tried turning it on. BTW, the only things in the Mobo was the CPU and RAM. Still, nothing is turning on. I'm worried if I may have shorted out the Power supply, but I can't think of anything I did that would have done so.

UPDATE: I managed to sack an ATX power supply from another computer and plugged in the ATX power cable onto the mobo; I also connected the power switch to the correct jumpers.

Now I plugged in the main power cord to the power supply (keep in mind that the MB is outside, sitting on a nonconductive surface) and when I do, there emits a faint, high pitched squealing that powers down and stops when I unplug the power cord. I hope I haven't fried anything, but what does this mean? I don't get any squealing from my Antec Power Supply. Is my MB fried?

Cech if there is something on the mobo that coan make contact.
Dust, gums, bugs, hot hogs...Anything!
On both sides.
And try to connect the speaker too, wen it's out of the case.

Well, I did that before, but nothing came of it. But I'll double check and see what's up.
