Right now they are saying no carry on luggage, nothing that you can't put in a clear plastic bag like travel documents and a wallet. Is this forever? I hope not. I can't imagine an international flight without laptops/mp3 player/etc.

I hope it's not permanent. The thought of everyone checking luggage and crowding around to find their luggage after their plane has landed......ahhhh.

Thats how th government chisels away those freedoms.

Just like the seatbelt laws.. at first they could only ticket you if they pulled you over for something else, and they said it would never be a reason to get pulled over.... LIE.

This whole situation is so annoying. But if it means it will get others and myself safely through a flight. I'm all for it.

Saw a quote from a 24 year old chick out of the UK "it will be inconvient to not have my iPod for 8 hours." I was thinking, "TWIT! It would be real inconvient to DIAF too." Some folks priorities are just monkeyed up. It is not like you can't live without one for a freaking plane flight. You weren't born with it. sigh

The only changes to domestic flights within the US is that liquids and creams (shampoo, toothpaste, make up, etc) are not allowed on carryons. These items will have to be in luggage that is checked in.

Carryons are still allowed.

the ban for carryon luggage is only for flights between England and the US.

When my alarm went off this morning (I have it tuned to an NPR station, because the alarm itself is RIDICULOUSLY soft and couldn't wake up an infant - and NPR is just as obnoxious as an electronic beep) and they were going on about the 'no carryon rule' - I have a friend who's presently in the middle of a vacation and had a HUGE carryon in addition to his max-weight checked stuff. I immediately broke out laughing. And then I found out it was a UK/US thing :(

I was dissapointed.

That isn't the point. The point is that terrorism is working, they're disrupting our daily lives and the freedoms we're used to.

Well, you're strapped to a chair with about 3 inches between you and someone else. The in-flight entertainment is terrible (and if I understand this, you can't even bring your own headphones to listen to it - needless to say, any airline-issued headphones, which I've never heard of, would be stupid uncomfortable in the pursuit of sterility), and there's prettymuch nothing to do. Even people who do nothing at work for 8 hours a day have more amusement at their disposal than that. It will make many people very uncomfortable. I know it would make me uncomfortable.

so when they found out about this plot, they shouldn't take any action and just let other people die on future flights so that other peoples lives won't be disrupted?

Stop taking things completely out of context, it is what it is. Obviously no sane person is suggesting that they shouldn't take action, just that they have a right to be upset about it.

You'd do well in P&N.

Here's what doesn't make sense. If iPods can be used as explosive detonators or whatever, why are they ever allowed? It seems really odd to me. Basically by disallowing them now, they are admitting that they don't normally care if you have an explosive ipod.

The common people have a way of overreacting. I think this is a case of overracting when you can't bring a bottled water you purchased after passing through the security check point onto the airplane.

tried pn, but kept laughing too hard over dcowen's posts...:)...that last one about rap music causing teenagers to have sex sooner was a knee slapper...

if they understand that is for their safety, what is there to get upset about (except that terrorists svck) and what good would it do?
