Question New card. Unable to install

Hello all.

I just bought an MSI gtx 1660 Ventus xs oc edition graphics card for an upgrade. I uninstalled the old card and drivers and plugged the new one in. Issue is the system will not install the pci device driver shown in device manager. I have no issues running this new card on my Linux partition. Linux shows it being a msi 1660 and the games I play on Steam run great. But back into Windows and all I get is a basic output. I'm not the most tech savvy. Am I screwed? or am I missing something? Specs below. Ohh. The old card I had before was a 750 TI.

This may sound like a really dumb question, but did you go to www.nvidia.com , click on "GeForce Drivers" on the top, select GeForce 16 Series, GTX 1660, Windows 10, All, and click "Search"? And then click on the top result, and click Download, save it to disk, and then run it? (Installing newest drivers?)

Windows 10 doesn't always pull down working drivers.

And if you need a PCI-E Root Port driver, if you somehow un-installed that, I'm not sure how you would go about fixing that. Try right-clicking on the root of the hardware tree in Device Manager, and select "Scan for New Hardware" in the fly-out menu.

Then after the drivers are installed, reboot, and see if things are better. You should be able to right-click on the desktop, and select "Nvidia Control Panel".

Edit: That motherboard appears to be a Skylake-era motherboard. Are you running Windows 7 or Windows 10? (Hopefully, Windows 10 by now.)
 
You need to go download nVidia's drivers like mentioned above.

Normally Windows 10 will find the proper drivers, although they often install older WHQL drivers. But getting the latest from nVidia is best.
 
Thanks for the replies. But it did not work. Keeps telling me its not compatible with the version of Windows that I have. I'm running Win10 Home edition.

Is Windows 10 up to date? The only time I have seen this is if you are running an older version of Windows 10. OR... if you have say, the 32bit version of Windows 10 installed, and you downloaded the 64bit version of the driver.

To find out if you have 32bit or 64bit, right click on 'My PC' and hit properties. It will tell you in there.

This was the problem all along. The build was old and the Nvidia drivers were not supported. I updated Windows and all is well now. Thanks to everyone involved. Much appreciated.
