I expect to get my HP/SONY 24" CRT MONITOR A7217A next week.

Since I have a 9600xt I figure I will need a new graphics card.

When I can use my 19" Viewsonic, I would normally use it in 1280 or 1600.

I am looking at the AGP versions since I don't need more expense to get a new motherboard.

In particular people are selling the x800 line here I see.

I like the idea of lifetime warranty on BFG. Basically security in mind if I get new. ATI 3 year warranty is good too.

I normally play EverQuest 1 or 2, and I have HL2, and various other FPS. I am interested in COD2.

well , it depends :
Shader 3.0 = new ATI x1000 have a way better implementation looking at benchmarking of Splinter cell/Farcry/
HDR = Nvidia seem to do better because in DOD source , nvidia G70 wins

Games wise
HL 2 = big win G70 (driver maybe the issue for ATI card)
HL 2 lost coast = Tie (based on drivenheaven review , not many test HL )
DOD source = big win G70
Doom 3 = big win G70
COD 2 = big win R520 (512MB model) (Nvidia G70 512MB should be able to catch up i think)
Fear beta/demo = big win R520
Farcry = big win R520
SC3 = decent win R520
AOE 3 demo = tie
BF2 = small win G70
Fable = small win R520
CS:S = small win R520 (don't really care about this benchmark test anyways both card can do 100Frame +)

R520 has loads of new cool features but if you already have a G70 then you have nothing to worry about since its like matched out :). But i think ATI has done better implementation for next gen games.

Quake 4 , Elder scroll 4 , AEO 3 , COD 2 , DOD source . HL 2 costal and fear is what i am interested in seeing since G70/R520 are bought for next gen gaming because current games work great on 6800GT/X800XL.

Anyways X1800 is better card in my mind but price/availability is a thing you must you must see. IF ATI can reduce the price of X1800XT to $450 by next month and have good supply , then X1800XT should be the best selling high end card. But in early 2006 , Nvidia would release G72 and ATI would fire back with either X1800XT PE based on R580.

I think ATI has learnt its lesson of no more paper lauch as the whole online hardware community has been really annoyed by the availability issue. ATI shouldn't have a problem with R60 since they have already gone through the trouble with XBOX 360 graphic card since its basically a mid range version of R60 chip i think.

Whoa there. I am not a graphics card techie.
I have no idea what you just said.
I can't afford the latest and greatest hardware. I may have about $250 to spend depending on certain bills possibly coming up.
As I said AGP is what I would need since buying another motherboard is even more expense.

That is a PCI-E card. I said AGP. There are no AGP cards for x850 Pro on NewEgg and the XT is $400.

Congrats on the monitor I have the Sony 24" FW900 version and its the best gaming monitor ive ever owned :thumbsup: Also remember that since its a CRT you can run lower resolutions without suffering image quality loss, for exampe I tried Half Life 2 at 1280x800 (wich is a proper 16:10 widescreen res) and it still looked great (pic here)

You should be fine with a X850XT or X800XL ,I'm using a 6800 GT and have no complaints.

x800XL is probably the way to go on AGP, 6800gt would give you SM3 support and better opengl but costs $50 more and is not any faster in directx. Warranties are nice, but if a videocard works when it shows up I wouldn't expect it to ever fail in a timeframe that you would use it. If you're interested in Call of Duty 2 you might even consider the 512mb x800xl ($310 vs $240 for the 256mb) because COD2 is the first game that that seems to make a tangible difference in. x800xl 512mb is faster than an x850xt 256mb for COD2 (though slower in everything else). If that's a 1920x1200 screen, don't expect to get spectacular performance from any card from the last generation in new games, the athlon xp won't help matters either.

yeah I bought the mobile some time ago in the hopes of Ocing but my knowledge, skill, time, and motivation waned when I could only set bus to 400 and could not get past 1.9 ghz.
I may get an XP or what ever. I have to look up again what this board can take since it has been so long since I paid any attention to it.
