I finally decided to play some games on the new gtx660ti and I noticed a slight buzzing noise coming through my headphones once I get past the splash screens on any game. the noise will vary at times from a buzz to a little whirring noise. changing the volume or even muting it has no impact. I even disabled the sound card and it still transmitted the noise.

Sometimes just changing the positions of the cards can stop it. Maybe try inserting the sound card into a different slot?

no other slot that I can use. I have already tossed the card as I just dont have patience for stuff like this anymore. my last sound card started making static sounds after a year and thats how ended up with the recon3d in the first place. at least I can use thx studio software with my onboard sound and that gives the same effects(surround and crystalizer) the sound card offered anyway. problem is that the volume just cant go high enough and the sound itself is just not as clear and robust.

Hey Toyota, as stupid as it sounds, I've had great results with USB soundcards for a few PCs for people over the past couple of years. Usually for different reasons (adding SPDIF/optical out for a SFF media PC for example), but I've had no trouble with them having lag, low volume, or any problems at all really.

This is one I've used several of with great clean results :

As much as a dedicated soundcard is worth purchasing, they can be such a hassle and i recently returned one for a particular buzzing issue myself.

The only soundcards to me that seem worthy are the ones built into the Asus Rog boards like the maximus gene as spacing isn't a issue, buzzing typically isn't either and conflicts with sli are eliminated, all while being respectable and not its own board.
