I was actually looking to buy a Canon S230, but found rumors of a new Canon Powershot S400. So many choices :)

Let's Go Digital!

I haven't been able to find anything else on this camera even with Google.

Anyone have any info?

Some guy over at dpreview posted saying that ritz said it would run 399 coming out in either beginning or end of april. I got a S230 waiting to be shipped from Dell if they ever get them. You can get that pentax one that will fit in an altoid box.

i am still SUPER content with my s30 !

i love the flash compensation (godsend), and improved macro focusing over the powershot compacts

It won't be that much more expensive than S230. It will probably be bigger than S230

Wow, it looks like they're updating everything:

A70 replaces A40.

S400 replaces either the S330/S230/S200.

S50 replaces either the S45/S40/S30.

Seem right?

I think the S400 is more a replacement for S300/S330. Reason being that it is the larger of the Elphs and houses the 3X zoom lens.

The S230 is still the top of the line for the smaller housing with 2X zoom, the previous being the S100/S110/S200.

I will be anxiously awaiting the S400 and sell my S330 <-- horrible macro shots :(

After further review, the S400 is the same size as the S230/S200.
Damn, I want that camera.

Me too. Now maybe if the S50 has a better video mode I'd consider upgrading again. I have a 1GB CF card sitting around and it needs some data.

S400
Dimensions (W x H x D) 3.43 x 2.24 x 1.09 in./ 87.0 x 57.0 x 27.8 mm (Excluding protrusions)

S230
Dimensions (W x H x D) 3.4 x 2.2 x 1.1 in. / 87.0 x 57.0 x 26.7 mm

you're talking .03 x .04 x -.01 difference. Almost the same..
6.4 (s230) vs 6.52 (s400) oz in weight

i do the s400 haha

And I got a $200 S200 because of that. Thanks Canon!

BTW, the S50 wouldn't really be replacing the S45 since the S45 just came out to replace the S40. You can still find S40s at some stores. S45s are selling quicker then stores can stock them, at least in my area.

I have had an S30 for a year (bought it for $500 when it came out) but I really want a camera with a focus ring. I did a few hours of research today and came to the conclusion that the Sony F717 is the best camera with a focus ring for the price but I would definately have to check out a working one before I buy because I must test out how easy it is to actually focus because it is not an SLR, you are looking at an LCD that isn't very hi resolution anyway.
