looks pretty good, nice all-around upgrade to the XT. Doesn't want to make me give up my XT though...

The 2.5 in monitor would make it worthwile for me to upgrade. I wonder how much?

Nice...but they pretty much had to do this to "keep up with the Jones". I really want to see this sensor (or a 12MP sensor) make its way into the 30D...or its replacement even if it did just come out.

Canon, please come out with a 35D or something. I don't like the Rebel interface...I much prefer the interface of the 20D/5D/etc.

's his 20D...

That is a nice upgrade for anyone interested in a DSLR and that was considering a Rebel XT. However, as Martin said, I am in no rush to upgrade my XT. Both cameras use the same image processor, so the 2MP increase in resolution probably won't even be noticable. I do like the increased busrt mode, though.

Is it still built for female and adolescent sized hands?

Yeah, I am keeping my XT. I might go 20d/30d for an upgrade. It didn't address any of my needs for an upgrade. (tougher body, IR AF assist beam, fps).
However, it is an improvement.
Don't worry. The pro DSLR stuff might be next spring. (1D series)

I have medium sized hands, and I have no problems with the xt egronomics. It seems funky at first, but can navigate the menus and do what I need to do without fumbling around.
Maybe it's old people that have big button phones that complain about this.

Things that interest me are:

1) the sensor cleaner.
2) the larger set of megapixels

More megapixels is always good in my book...why? Because cropping is essential and the more megapixels you have, the more you can crop without loosing your capability to resize the final output and retain quality.

They supposedly improved the grip a bit on the XTi, but it seems to be the same size overall.

Dpreview doesn't have anything on this camera yet, but Imaging Resource has a preview.

I'm waiting for full frame sensor and brighter view finder. More pixels and faster/more pictures per second isn't really important to me.

10mp is really a small jump up from the 8MP. The best features in my opinion are the larger display and the self-cleaning sensor, like the Olympus DSLRs.

But if the viewfinder is still done with a porroprism and results in the dim, small viewfinder image that the current XT has, I say "poopy!"

I like it but the XT takes stunning pictures as it is. If you've already got one better to skip the MP upgrade and put the money toward glass.

Agreed. Realistically IMO the XTi would be a bad-value upgrade if you're jumping up from an XT, but not the original 6MP Rebel. When this pushes the price of the current XT down, it'll also make the value of the XT greater for people who are just starting out with DSLRs.

So basically, if you've already got the XT, save up for some better glass or a whole new body like the 5D or 1D/1Ds series if you're really getting serious.

Dust Delete Data Detection
Dust that has been missed by the Integrated Self Cleaning Sensor Unit can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 2.2. The Digital Rebel XTi?s imaging sensor is able to single out the dust particles on its surface, then plots out their location coordinates within the image. This data is transmitted along with the image, whether JPEG or RAW, and can be either manually or automatically erased in Canon?s DPP 2.2. This added software option ensures the cleanest possible image, perfect for printing or archiving.

that is the coolest thing ever (well, in-camera IS would be nice too)

Nice.

I've had my DRebel since it came out 3? years back, and it's nice to see the upgrade pace keeping brisk. I'll likely wait to upgrade until I can get a full frame CCD, but otherwise

if only it were in a 20D body. the grip is supposed to be improved but it has the same small viewfinder.

i am really out of my mind right now trying to figure out if i should get this, the K100D, the D80, an e-volt, or the alpha

i should just go over to camera exchange and rent each one.
