i bought a sony dsc-f717 yesterday using the hot deals forum (475 @ circuit city pricematched to best buy so i could get 12 month 0% financing on my best buy card). here are some pics i took today: all pics are non-compressed or altered in any way, so they're all 2mb+ images. some are manual, and some are on auto mode - the coin macros are all using manual focus)

stream out in west austin (spicewood springs and 360, for you austinites)
the 360 bridge
close-up of car on bridge
flowers in macro mode
boat on the colorado river
polycom building... thought it looked cool, i'm guessing they're one of those tech firms?
sunset from the 360 bridge
random birds above bridge
macro of quarter
close-up of letters on quarter
curious initials on quarter... never seen em before, wonder what they stand for.

feel free to critique whatever. i really like this camera so far, it is quite awesome.

YOu need to work on your lighting. The outdoor pics look a little washed out, except for the car on bridge one...the lighting is pretty good in that one. But you need to learn how to get comfortable with a non-centered subject...it'll look a lot more proofessional.

ISO seems a bit high.. all pics are grainy... all seem a bit (maybe 2/3 step) underexposed..
most important is composition, tho.. theyre all photos..but none are really a picture :D

Lighting is key to a lot of pictures. I like to think about pics as telling a story and you want to make them as interesting as possible. Play with Fstop and shutter speed, and see what you come up with. Since its digital don't be afraid to take craploads of pictures. What I was taught to do when experimenting is keep a clipboard beside you to record Fstops, shutter speed, and lighting (get a light meter) in a chart corresponding to the photo #. So when you go over your pictures you can see what it took to create the effect a certain picture produced.
