New Business Product Idea

Hey,

Soda. What does that word bring to mind when you read it? Caffeine, sugar, acne, addiction.. What if a new drink was created that has all of the good parts of soda - energy, taste, etc - but got rid of the negative aspects of drinking that crap - ie. the the 32g's of sugar, caffeine that makes people break out, etc etc. It could be marketed as a new sort of Diet Coke or whatever company brings it out. People buy diet whatever because they're addicted to the soda but want to feel better about their humongous asses, so why not bring out a drink that actually is good for you, but not market like a hippy drink, just as a normal alternative to normal coke/pepsi whatever.
I know I'm rambling but I think people would buy it up. Mom's would let their kids drink it since it used guarana or whatever to spike it instead of caffeine, maybe an alternative to sugar is used to keep the empty calories down, and teenagers would buy a lot if they had the inclination that it might help out their complextion due to some additive that I have no idea about. If the drink did all of this and the alternative is just regular coke/diet, which would you choose? It could be the junk food equivalent of putting flouride in drinking fountains, but with more money to be made..

Do you know how hard it is to reach a formulation that is acceptable by the public? You take out the major components you mentioned and it tastes like crap.

Yup. I just trademarked it. Please cease and desist all mental capabilities referring to this new 'soda'.

I think it's already been done. It's in the natural foods section of your favorite supermarket! All natural soda, grapefruit flavor being the best IMO.

Well firstly, I never said I was smart, and second-like, I have other business plans that are more likely to pan out for me, heh. I just thought that a soft drink that tasted good and had completely the opposite effects that are stigmatized in most drinks would have incredible success. I agree with minendo on the new formulation problems - take coke switching from cane to fructose, people went nuts. Maybe a gradual introduction of new ingredients in offshoot diet versions of the drink would be a good idea, eventually becoming a "new and improved drink" that always had the new ingredients but is now accepted as a decent drink and can have marketing hype it's good effects.

hrm, isn't guarana 2-3 times more potent than normal caffeine? Do you really want your kids bouncing off the walls and staying up til the rooster crows? I know I will not let any child of mine drink bawls for the first 16-18 years of their life. Sugarless soda generally tastes funny and you have to keep in mind that carbonation in a beverage makes it damn hard to make something that tastes alright. On top of that, adding anti-acne medication would prolly not help.

Personally, I think a mouse cursor you could control with eye movement would be a better idea. Imagine never having to touch your mouse while working in flash or dreamweaver or any windows app. Imagine opening terminal windows with little more than an eye twitch on XF86.

Fresca SUCKETH. I mean the microbrew stuff. They make root beer and cream soda and orange. Cream soda's good but I don't remember the brand. I think it might have cane juice in it for sweetner. At least it's not superrefined.

But see, who would buy that? Plus it doesn't have the active ingredients that make most people like soda (caffeine and sugar) and, I dont want to say medication, but ingredients that are proactive to helping complexion - which are both big issues for parents not letting their kids drink the crap.

Appealing to the parents and image consciencous markets instead of hippies would make the most money IMO, as far as marketing goes. "XX Coke, same great taste while making you more sexy/awake/whatever!" who wouldn't buy the crap?

Yeah guarana is pretty hardcore, it was the only alternative to caffeine that I could think of in my almost-catatonic state. Taste would be an issue, I'm hedging my idea on the innovations of chemical research that will produce synthetic alternatives to the destructive ingredients currently in soda to ones that still taste good but can actually improve your health/image.
