New Built PC, Boots, then Shuts Down

Hello,

I'm helping a friend built his PC. Actually, I only installed the video card and the HD... He had already installed all the other parts.

When I turn on the PC, it boots fine (no errors), but after about 30-40 seconds, it shuts down. I can be in the BIOS or when WinXP starts installing, it just shuts off. CPU and system fans spinning OK.

I'll work on it after work, but I wanted to get some help from you guys. I know that I'll check the video card, remove CPU or it could even be the PSU or re-install everything again... I'll try different things.

Does anyone has any recomendations?

He got the Mobo, CPU and Memory as a combo package
ABIT NF8 series powered by nForce3 250Gb chipset
AMD 3000
512 RAM Kingston
80gb WD HD
Memorex CD burner
Antec 400psu
eVGA 64MB DDR 8X AGP

If the BIOS has any kind of hardware monitor, boot into BIOS and monitor your temps.

Yeah, I didn't really pay attention to the temps. in the BIOS.
The default temps may be set too low therefore causing the system to shut down. It's a possibility.
I'll reset the CMOS and check the temps.

Make 100% sure the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU FAN header on the mobo! What you are describing normally happens when no cpu fan is detected by the BIOS.
