I just got all my packages yesterday from newegg. They contained:
EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600
SILVERSTONE SST-ST75ZF ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V 750W SLI Certified Power Supply
Rosewill R6AS5-BK 0.8mm SECC 120mm Fan ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model LH-20A1L-05
ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

So I started last night, got everything wired up correctly (atx, power on, reset sw, etc.) and plugged it in. I hit power button, and it "tries" to start up, i hear a slight movement in fans, then nothing. (it is less than 1 second) The light on my PSU goes to red and sits there. I read many places to check PSU to verify it is working. I unplugged everything from PSU. So I shorted green/black and the PSU fans turned on, and light turned green. So that is allright. I even tried pulling out MB from computer, putting in original box, plugging just MB in (with one stick of ram in) and does the same thing. Just sits there, doing nothing. Light turns to red on PSU.

Can you think of any other tests for MB (besides putting diff processor in, cuz i dont have one) or do you think it is DOA?

Welcome to the Forums :)

One frequent "show-stopper" is if the ATX12V cable doesn't get hooked up. It's the one marked "4-pin CPU power connector" in this picture :camera:. The right power cable for that is the one with two yellow and two black wires :camera:

If that's not the problem, try removing the motherboard from the case, laying it on cardboard, and testing it with only the bare essentials: video card, CPU and heatsink, one memory module, no drives, no extra cards, no mouse or keyboard or case wiring except the power button.

If it works in this scenario, then maybe there was a short-circuit situation with the case. Possible causes of short circuits include if the springy "fingers" of the case's I/O shield sneak into your network port or USB ports, or if there is a standoff underneath the motherboard in a location where it doesn't actually have a mounting hole.

The 4 - pin connector is definately hooked up. I tried pulling out MB this morning, setting it on original box, hooked up 1 stick of ram (NOT VIDEO CARD!) and it did same thing as inside computer case. Do you think it would make a diff. having a video card in PCI-e slot?

Thanks!

Nope, if you don't have a video card in the slot, the system will still power on, but should beep at you telling you there is no video.

It really sounds like you got a DOA motherboard.

Not powering up suggests a possible short on the power supply. Unplug everything, and reseat the vid card and one stick of RAM, and see if it works.

If that doesn't work, remove the motherboard, and set it on an insulated surface, and see if it starts to power up. If it does, you can turn the power off, immediately, but you'll know it was a short between the motherboard and the chassis. If so, be very careful to align the board with the mounting standoffs.

Good luck. :)

Harvey ... I have already tried doing that. It does the same thing that it does when inside my case; nothing. The Motherboard is getting the power, just the mb doesnt seem to be doing anything with it ... or something.

I did get the PSU's light to turn green (orange--> just plugin to outlet and flip switch on PSU on, red--> color it turns after i hit power button/short 2 pins with screwdriver, which means it isnt doing anything, or error maybe?) when i shorted it.
