Equipment:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Ath 64 3200+ Win
WD 120GB
Cooler Master 450W PSU
Chaintech 6600GT
Artec 16X52X DVD/CD Combo
On-board audio

Where to begin...I put everything together. Everything checked out fine. Installed Windows XP, then chipset, sound etc. drivers and video drivers from CDs that came with them. Set up some software - Outlook, Quicken. Everything worked fine. Loaded Far Cry and started the game. After about 3 mins into the game the system crashed and rebooted. After reboot things stopped working and the system crashed earlier and earlier after reboot to the point Windows wouldn't completely load without crashing.

So, I formatted the hard drive and started trying to re-install WinXP but it won't. At first it wouldn't copy the files correctly but after several tries it finally did. Then half-way through the setup it gave me this error report and stopped:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0x0000000A (0xC00EFF48, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80509CA8)

I've never built a computer before; I'm not very savvy...please help.

Welcome to the Forums :) What brand and model of memory modules are you using?

Another dodgy link.
Sorry

The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

I would also consider raising the memory voltage to 2.7 volts in the motherboard's BIOS.

Thanks for the link and the suggestion on the memory. I'll try them.

BTW - mechBgon I studied your website on assembling a computer religiously while I was putting this thing together. It was a BIG help...thanks.

Ok, got windows installed but now am having other problems.

Was using IE to download drivers...got vid card, chipset etc. off the internet. Then chose to activate windows xp. The screen opened for a few seconds and then IE failed - could not open any web page. Checked hardware manager, the network indicates no connection (on-board Marvell LAN) even though the cables is plugged in. Other computers on the router worked at the same time this one didn't.

Another issue...I let the computer run idle overnight. This morning I tried to shut it down using "turn off computer" option in win xp. It would not shutdown. The popup window disappeared but nothing happened.

Thanks for your previous help...
