NEW Builder, Looking for feedback

Hello,

Just thought I would try and get some feedback on my build.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=19157712

1. Gaming, content creation (UDK, & other tools)

2. 1k - 2k budget

3. US

4. No strong preference, but a slight affinity for ASUS

5. Full build / New Machine
*

7. Will likely overclock, but not at first

8. Resolution: 1920 x 1080

9. In the build process just looking for input. I know the build should work (went over it with others) just looking for second opinions and possible future changes.

X. Just needed the OS, can get anything else needed.

I wanted to go with the LGA 2011 socket in hopes that going with the newest socket would help get some longevity out of the machine. The MOBO, CPU, and GPU all came in a bundle with each other and I liked the price so I went for it. and that is largely what I built around.

I had heard of an issue with the RAM I chose not working with the MOBO but could not find anyone who knew the cause, so I assumed that the claim may be unfounded or misguided. If not, its getting returned. I also know that it tends not to run in 1866, if so, no big deal.

I'm also a bit concerned that I may be pushing the edge of the 600W PSU. I would definitely replace it if I decide to set up a pair of SLI GPUs.

Anyways, just looking for some feedback.

Thanks!

Wait, so you've bought all the stuff already...? Why not post before you decided to make purchases?

Also, in order to give feedback/suggestions, need answers to the stickied questions.

OP, I'd say that you definitely could have gotten better bang for the buck. IMHO, you spent nearly $1800 on a $1200-1300 system. Did you actually buy that stuff already as lehtv mentioned?

I just bought the MOBO CPU and GPU haven't decided on the others, think those could be built around?

The motherboard cost nearly $300. No way that is worth it. The CPU is not any faster than 2600K at stock, but 2600K overclocks better and so does Ivy Bridge 3770K.

You can get a 560 Ti for less than the one you bought, e.g. MSI 560 Ti with dual fans. And you can get a 7850 2GB for $250, same as the EVGA 560 Ti before rebate. It is easily a better deal - 7850 is faster, has more VRAM and consumes less power.

I would return the components and buy a Z77 board, and i5-2500K, i5-3570K, i7-2600K or i7-3770K, and a HD 7850 graphics card.

You won't really get any more longevity out of LGA2011 than you would out of LGA1155. LGA2011 is just an enthusiast platform that offers compatibility with hexacore processors (i7-3820 is quad core), obscene amounts of RAM, and support for Quad-SLI and Quad-Crossfire. However, it lacks some features present in the Z68/Z77 chipset and compatible CPUs - namely, SSD caching and integrated graphics support.

GPU, yes we could work around. The mobo and CPU are the two most egregious offenders in the "bad bang for the buck" category so they kind of sink the value proposition of the whole build. To put things in perspective, you spent $630 on a mobo and CPU that perform within 10% of a $330 i5 2500K + Z68 combo.
