Hey everyone building a new system because my old P3 797MHz just isnt cutting it anymore. Here are the specs i have picked out so far(I am buying from newegg):

Case (Comes in a combo with PSU) - Antec P180
Motherboard - GIGABITE GA-P35
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 2GB
Graphics Card - EVGA 8800GTS
PSU (Comes in a combo with Case) - Antec True Power Trio 550W
HDD - Seagate 250GB
Optical Drive - Sony NEC Optiarc
Monitor - Gateway 17" Widescreen LCD

Total: 1,206 with S+H 1,091 with mail in rebates!

im doing pretty good just seeing if theres something better i could get for the money. i am going with the E6550 because i figure i can just overclock to E6600 speeds and even higher so what the heck. Thanks for any help!

Axe the TruePower Trio; get the Corsair 520HX from Buy.com.

I'll second what jpeyton said and also, if you are paying $160 for that 17" gateway, I strongly suggest you get 20" Acer AL2051W instead, it's a very rare quality panel with 176 degree viewing angles, an absolute steal for $199. And also, if you plan to overclock, you should get some aftermarket cooling because the stock cooler is... crap, a cheap alternative would be the $20 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro along with some quality thermal paste.

Good luck.

wow thanks that acer looks very nice and i do plan on overclocking but not much, i will buy aftermarket cooling a little bit later on. thanks though and i will probably get the corsair 520HX also.

anymore suggestions?

😕 The Samsung SH-183L is a DVD burner.....

Gotten some other help and actually ive found that i dont need the speakers on the monitor so i went with a cheaper 19" that looks very good. hell anythings good than the monitor i have now. Here are some other tweaked specs also:

Case - Cooler Master Centurion 5 (much cheaper)
Motherboard - GIGABITE GA-P35
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (cheaper, easily overclockable)
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 2GB
Graphics Card - EVGA 8800GTS
PSU - Corsair 520HX (79.99 at buy.com minus 10 bucks if i use google checkout coming to 69.99, great price!)
HDD - Seagate 250GB
Optical Drive - ASUS 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe
Monitor - Acer 19" Widescreen monitor

Total comes to: 1011.35 with S+H and Mail in rebates. great price

Questions: Is everything COMPATIBLE?

another question, with this new machine do you guys think i will be able to play Halo 2 on it on max settings. if i can do that i think i succeded with the build. thanks!

E4400 has twice less cache than E6550.
You are also really missing out on not getting the 20" Acer AL2051W for $189. Everybody knows monitor speakers are crap and few actually use them, this is not what this monitor is so highly rated for.

May I ask why...?

As the Corsair 520HX, it is built by Seasonic. I am using the 650W version of the Trio with 3 x 19A 12V rails, and it seems to perform fine.

sweet i think this will be final i cant wait!

will probably order the lower end stuff (monitor, HDD, optical drive, etc.) next week when i get payed and then the more important stuff (just in case) 2 weeks after that, just in case anything new pops up. yay
