Well, yes, it would be better, but with the new Ryzens available to pre-order tomorrow, and ship next Monday, you should probably consider those. They will be cheaper, and probably faster than what you quoted.

@john3850

Or if you just really want the 9700k, just wait a week or two, prices should come crashing down and/or people will start dumping parts on eBay. There will be deals to be had, either way.

I guess I will wait for the new Ryzens scores to come out first.

Yeah I am not big on telling people to hold off. There is always a new product on the cusp, or just a month or two away. But it's so close at this point and can/will have such an effect on the whole landscape pricing wise it would be smart to hold off. Maybe 2 weeks to see what the competitions reaction is, better parts availability, and to see if the second hand market exploded.

From what I know intels single threaded IPC should be better do to the slightly higher speeds but the 3800X also seems so nice.
Now for multi thread I would go with the Ryzen 9 3900X for the extra cores and if those cores can run maxed out.
This is the first time I checked into a Ryzen 3rd to me it seems like Core2 6600q on steroids.
I also have a spare D5 pump and intel wb.

In this next generation, AMD may have the single core crown. And speed is not everything.

I'll third or fourth the suggestion to wait a week for reviews and then another week or two for pricing to shake out.

Ryzen 3000 series looks amazing and that either means get the amazing chip or the bargain competing with the amazing chip.

I'm waiting and will probably snag a 3600.
